The Silicon Knights Logo explained. Short Failblog.
perri | 9:58 AM on 07.30.2009 7 comments

So, I know nobody probably cares about this at all but it's something that has been bothering me since I first saw the SK logo. WHAT IS THAT THING!?

An incarnation of the logo that probably isn't as old as it should be...

So lets just ignore the current reputation of Dennis Dyack and Co. For a minute and focus on their baffling logo. I always understood that they were 'knights of silicon', honourable and distinguished warriors of virtual worlds created by the power of silicon technology, sure it's pretty cute. The older image here really focuses on the silicon- it is obvious that the cube there is made of computer chips.

BUT

What if I told you that it wasn't a cube at all. Take a look at the newer logo, its easier to imagine.

Ya, thats a simplified, more contemporary looking logo. When I saw it I was still as curious as ever so I started thinking, is is a computer tower? Is it a real tower? It has a striking resemblance to the building SK calls home.

But, today was a special day. I find myself working beside a former employee and asked him a familiar question. He said that nobody knows what that thing is, and that they were always surprised when he told them...

ITS A SHIELD.

It is a Silicon shield, a shield made of silicon. A sci-fi shield made of silicon...They are knights equipped with medieval swords and silicon shields. What the hell are they fighting?

At any rate, Lord Dyack seems pleased...

and now you know.

Huh, interesting. Anyway, I thought their old 3D rendered logo was terrible. Their new one is quite an improvement.

Really Anth? You didnt think it looked like a shield. Thats what I always assumed it was, doesn't it make sense? Normally a sword goes with a shield and dish goes with a spoon. I'm usually the one that lacks common sense, I think its all that time you spent studying surrealist art, you think that nothing can be taken at face value anymore.

Interesting! (and it does look a bit like the building!). It sort of looks like a shield... but the "bend" in the middle makes it seem like it could be something else...

Wow, that's interesting.

Ah, the good old Silicon Knights building. So many times I wanted to break in there and steal an early copy of Too Human, but never had the guts. I probably would have stepped in the front door and had my head cut off by Denis and his collection of swords.

Does this mean that you and faith live in my town Perri?
Because that would be AWESOME!

As far as I know Faith lives in St. Catharines- I don't- though I work there and went to school there. I live close by in Niagara but I often wondered if I'd ever run into Faith around town. I'm not really sure what she looks like though.

 about me

Hey Dtoid. Welcome to perritoid!

I'm a 21 year old artist fresh out of University. While I was there I experimented mostly with Animation, Video, and Games.

The lovely Anthony Burch* recently featured the fruits of my experimentation here on Destructoid as part of the Indie Nation Series Which probably is one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me! One of many reasons why I love Destructoid.

*The Resident Person Named Anthony Who Isn't Anthony Perri.

My first console was the SNES. It remains my favourite, and I've been playing games ever since without pause. Recently I've been a little burned out on the modern sensibilities of a suddenly overwhelmingly Western market. Most of the HD games don't appeal to me. I love my Wii and have undergone, because of this, a sort of Retro-Renaissance of my own.

When I discovered RFGO I immediately went out and bought a second SNES and a bunch of games, since then I've dived into the Virtual Console and tried to buy as many cartridges as I could!

That said, I've been able to get my hands on a pretty powerful iMac and, with the help of Bootcamp, may have been converted into something of a PC gamer courtesy of Valve. Seriously, Steam is amazing...

Oh one other thing that you may be interested in is that I AM ON DIAL UP. ugh.
Luckily my iMac is pretty much portable so if I need to download a game or play some L4D my friends are more than happy to have me.

Want to know more? remember those 10 things... posts? I was a little late.
