About Me

Name: Peter
Home State: New York
Currently Residing In: Utah
Birthday: October 13th, 1985 (I'll always secretly consider the NES to have been a week-late birthday present to me from Nintendo.)

As far as video games go, I've been a gamer since I was two-and-a-half. I try to play whatever interests me, despite what other people think of those games. I don't consider myself to be a "casual" gamer, but I also don't take games unbelievably seriously. They're games, after all. They're meant to be enjoyed, not obsessed over. I never base whether I buy a game or not on a single review -- I have to try the game for myself to be totally sure.

CURRENT FAVORITES:

Metal Gear Solid Series (PS1, PS2, & PS3)
Fatal Frame Series (PS2, Xbox, Wii)
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES (PS2)
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 (PS2)
Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii)
Dead Space (PS3, Xbox 360)
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (PS3)
Anything Zelda-Related (Various Nintendo Platforms)

My most prized gaming-related possession: A factory-sealed copy of the original Famicom Disk System Zeruda no Densetsu (The Legend of Zelda).

Mario and I were tight back in the day, yo.

I've had a few articles promoted on the front page... Check them out if you want. (Thanks, Hamza! :D)

Extremely short blog: Official Zelda timeline revealed by Nintendo
pedrovay2003 | 5:27 PM on 12.21.2011 23 comments

In the new Japanese-exclusive book, Zelda 25th Hyrule Historia, Nintendo has finally revealed the official timeline. Here's an image, so prepare yourself:

Kinda out of left field, huh?

Anyway, here's one of the many sources, so read to your heart's content, and my apologies for the double-blog.

Wow, so Ocarina of Time really fucked things up chronologically. Damn.

That is, in a lot of ways, opposite to a lot of what I expected, but I love how they split the timeline based on the results of Ocarina. The subsequent timelines are more or less what I expected.

How is Four Swords Adventures the last of it's timeline when it's the first time Ganon makes an appearance in the series, chronologically speaking?

The only thing that bugs me is that the placements of a lot of games in there (read: the entire failure timeline) aren't proven through any other gamesin the series -- They're just there because, literally, the directors say so.

Then again, I guess that's why they're the directors.

Huh, never thought Twilight followed Majora's but now I think about it it kinda makes sense.

@dunnace

Yeah, Twilight comes hundreds of years after Ocarina. Majora's is immediate.

On that note, I still say Twilight is the best game in that chart. :-P

I always felt there was a split timeline, but didn't know there was a their branch, but it does help sort out the earlier games into a sensible order.

And its a good way of keeping their freedom to fuck around without being bound to one of two timelines.

I honestly don't understand why this matters at all... Why did the Zelda series need a timeline?

This is all kinds of dumb.

Official or not, I prefer the 'Legend' theory, that they are all the same story, retold and embellished and distorted and broken up and reinterpreted by the passing eons. Y'know, since it's got the word right in the title there, and they mostly involve the same main components. In my world, it goes like this:

The Zelda Stories: Skyward, OoT, Wind Waker, LttP, Twilight, LoZ, AoL
The Feats of Link: Minish, Four Swords, Majora's, Handheld Installments

Simple, mix 'em up however you want. It doesn't matter, 'cause it's a Legend, baby!

Three timelines eh?? I haven't played many of the games in the series but it makes a bit of sense from what I've been hearing. I'm still playing through Skyward Sword and was wondering why there were no references to past "Links" or "Zeldas".

Did you guys ever watch the Gametrailers retrospective around the release of TP? Their two timeline scenario made a lot of sense at the time and was kind of close. Actually that entire video series was awesome and I only wanted to mention it because this blog brought back memories :D

The three timeline thing kinda make sense the more I think about it. The fail timeline is most interesting since the game causes you to win in order to complete it but it's logical I suppose. Miyamoto must really have his troll face on right now!

I like how Toon Link is labeled as "Adult Timeline"

I always liked that, too. The adult and child timelines were confirmed by Aonuma way back before Twilight Princess came out - It's the failure one that's getting the attention right now.

As arrogant as it sounds, I put this together a few weeks ago after beating Skyward Sword, and I had everything together except for the third timeline - I had them in either timeline and just couldn't figure out which one.

I guess the "failure" timeline it is then!

@Manasteel
It's listed as "The Adventure of Link".

@Magnalon

Yeah, the third timeline only exists because they're not related to Ocarina of Time, so they got shoved there.
