Well since I'm going to be using this video as a reference I may aswell put it right at the top, after the video will be my brief article
Watch the video? Good. As you can see on the right side of the screen you will notice I'm and MGS fan, and any news about a new MGS game makes me get excited. Im sure Im not alone in my obsession with the mythology of the Metal Gear universe, so hypothesizing is what I find fun when dealing with Metal Gear. Now back the video, Kojima talks about ladders and hardware technology and that's all well and good but I found two things very interesting about this video.
First, is the role in what other developers will bring to the table for the next Metal gear game. Kojima was reported visiting Infantry Ward and (I believe) Gorilla Games. Will the next MGS be a FPS? or will it merely have more refined FPS controls or elements. What will this mean for the MGS series if it gets opened up to western developers. Will it lose something? These are questions which I feel are important and obviously I don't know the answers. But for the sake of guessing, I would say that first person shooting will have more of a role in the next game. However my next point is somewhat contradictory to this.
Second, if you watched the video near the end after Snake has fully climbed up the ladder he dissappears and there is another figure there above the text "Mission: The Next MGS". That figure looks like he is holding a sword and has white hair. And I believe everyone knows who that would be, your right! Its a Ninja Santa Clause, he lost some weight and god a katana for xmas and an exoskeleton....ok Ill stop. So will this mean that MGS5 will be staring Raiden, personally I welcome that idea. I was one of the few who didn't mind playing Raiden in MGS2, I understood his role in the story and it worked well. If its going to be Ninja Raiden in the next MGS he will not only look kool but if anyone has played MGS: VR missions for PS1 I believe it ill be something similar to when you play as the Ninja. This will make the gameplay focus a lot more on stealth, probably more so than MGS3. I this this would be a great idea for MGS 5. Naturally I would like Snake back, but the only way I would want that to happen if Kojima remakes Metal Gear 1 and 2 from the NES. So what do you guys think? Am I crazy for thinking this or do you have a different idea of the next MGS?
@ Perdro
I would also like to see Kojima involved in MGS5, However if he does not than I believe his team will do him justice. I think hes got a great staff at Kojima production who can make a great metal gear game.
@ Holmes
I would love to see a remake of the MG originals. But I want to see them using the MGS4 engine with the same gameplay and combine both MG 1 and 2 into one complete Metal Gear story. I think it would fantastic, however if they to remake it for PSN, similar to how they did bionic commando I would still buy it.
Here's an idea-- maybe we've already heard about MGS5 if Raiden is in fact the lead protagonist again.
What do I mean by that?
How about the missing chapter of the story between 2 and 4: the rescue of Sunny where Raiden sacrificed everything to do it.
Think about this: they all kept talking about it, Otacon provided sysops, and Snake was off chasing phantom La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo.
Every time I heard it mentioned, all I could think about is:
This could easily be the next game.
@ Solid Squirrel
Thats very true man, there's five years completely unaccounted for between 2 and 4. And while where looking at some 'missed missions' how about snakes life between 1 and 2. there was 3-5 years in between the end of MGS1 and the tanker chapter. Was snake doing more than just destroying metal gears? If so its got all the classic elements of a metal gear game. But going back to Solid's point now, that would be a great game, ever other chapter you would play as snake and Raiden. That would be an interesting game.

Hey everyone, I'm a Canadian film student currently enrolled in university, and I love video games. Yes I know! there was a surprise! I also like film, TV, music, popular culture and destructoid.
Current console:
The one I use the most is PS3, not so much my PSP
Before that i had a PS2, PS1, and a Sega Genesis
My all time favorite games and or game series
Well top of the list, if you haven't guessed from my avatar is Metal Gear Solid Series. Yes everyone one of them, even MGS2 although MGS: portable ops really isn't that good, but i don't count that. I also do not count Metal Gear Ac!d. If You want a really good MGS portable game, find Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel online for Game Boy Colour. Im sure there's a rom somewhere. Kojima kicks ass!
God Of War Series. All Hail David Jaffe And Kratos!
Twisted Metal: Black
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Burnout Series: 3 was the best one but paradise comes in at a close second
BioShock
The Orange Box
Sonic 1 and 2 (Genesis)
X-men 2: Clone wars (Genesis)
Call Of Duty 4: my favorite FPS, however i would like to thank the guys from Epic who got me hooked on FPS games with the original and the best unreal tournament for PC.
Resident Evil 4 (Common! who doesn't like this game!)
Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
Mortal Kombat 2 (For 2D) and Mortal Kombat: Deception (For 3D)

I'd love to see the first two MG games remade, either on XBLA/PSN or Wii.
As for MGS5, making Raiden the lead makes sense. Both the controls and the story could head in some pretty interesting directions.
And if it doesn't work out, they could always just make MGS6 about Naked Snake.
Worked for MGS3.
I'm hoping if MGS5 happens, it's good, but that'll only happen if Kojima is directly involved like all the other ones.
I can hope, anyway.

Seems a wee bit to early to talk about MGS5 when MGS4 isn't even a year old yet.
And wasn't Kojima working on a game based off the dream sequence snake had in MGS3?
I want a NES Metal Gear remake in which you play both Snake and Big Boss from opposite sides of the story. Oh man, that would be so sweet.....
Raiden is cool, but he'll always be in Snake's shadow.
