Mountain Dew Game Fuel
parrothead | 7:32 PM on 09.13.2007 7 comments

I was watching TV the other day and I saw this commercial for a special flavor of Mountain Dew to coincide with Halo 3 release. I thought that there was no way that this could be a good thing. They are just pandering to us as gamers. Slap something to do with a video game on the bottle and people will but it, right? In order to conduct a scientific experiment I got my hands on a couple of bottles of the new Dew. Let me just tell you that the stuff is gross. It tastes like someone put a red bull into a mountain dew and then topped it off by drizzling liquid sugar in the flavor of cherry. It tastes like absolute garbage. While the ad is pretty good:

I have to ask are any gamers out there offended that they would give us such an inferior product and expect us to just take it? I imagine it is probably how the hip-hop community feels about the Boost Mobile ads or teachers/strippers feel about the new Carl's Jr Ad:
I personally feel insulted when companies take things I love and try to trick me into buying things just because they are loosely associated with that action. Am I the only one that can distinguish a shitty product from a good one regardless of what is on the bottle?

I bought one can for the memories and I will never buy another. As for the pattymelt I know I'm gonna die someday and I would like to keep it far off and not in a Carls Jr.

Its ok, I just had to try it also. However I wouldn't describe it as bad. I kinda dug it. I wouldn't consider it some sort of energy drink at all though. I simply can't compare this to a tasty Rockstar.

I must've missed something, cause Rockstar, Monster and RedBull all taste the same to me.

I enjoyed the bottle of GamerFuel I bought but I'll be damned if I'll buy it again. I don't understand how people can subsist entirely on sodas all the time. I need water.

Bleh.

I like it, someone somewhere said that it tasted like liquid gummy bears and I totally agree.

I took one sip and dumped out the rest. $1.98 well wasted.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
