About Me

I'm a woman who loves her video games. I'm also pretty much a nerd for all that is nerdy: MST3K/Riff Trax, Star Wars, Anime/Manga, Kevin Smith, X-men Comics, and of course all things video games. Someday, I would look to get paid to write for and/or about video games. I'm awesome, so it'll will probably happen.

I have a strong hatred for the Atlantic Ocean.

Yoshi BBFs forever: Me, Suff0cat, Wardrox, and ScottyG.

Preferred games are RPGs and puzzle games. I like the occasional FPS (Timesplitters: FuturePerfect being my favorite) and some racing (Burnout Reveeeeenge).

Current Games:
Burnout Paradise
Left 4 Dead
Space Invaders Extreme
Harvest Moon Island of Happiness
Chrono Trigger DS

The Start of the Affair: Harvest Moon

I also write a bit for Negative Gamer.

Quickblog: NAVA swag and NARP awesome
nintendoll | 7:44 AM on 10.27.2008 12 comments

I'm sure someone has written already about the epicness of the Street Fighter Club meet this past Friday. We got to play SFIV in an old brick basement, with a DJ spinning all night on the first floor. Episodes of the Street Fighter anime were projected on the ceiling.

Dtoiders seemed to hold their own; Cataract and Casualweaponry spent plenty of time on the machines. I suck at Street Fighter and didn't enjoy the privilege of more than one fight at a time. Awesome bags of swag were obtained: a headband, soap, comic book, shirt poster, and dogtag (though my bag was missing the dogtag and I died a little bit inside). I didn't partake in after-SF drinking, but I did get to see a drunk guy yelling in Spanish with his nose bleeding all over the place. It was at this point that Cataract, Power-glove and I realized that this was an ATV trail, and we had to go back (to Jersey).

Next day NAVA was the "Night of 100 Prizes" meaning that Joe (owner of the store) was trying to get rid of some of his many boxes of game-related swag. I won three prizes: a Space Channel 5 remix CD, a metal Playstation flask, and a Prince of Persia soundtrack CD. With the help of Cataract, I also managed to get an SNES for $10 (from another NAVA member) and a copy of Aladdin for $2. I wore my Yukari costume and there were a lot of other people costumed, both game related and normal. Pizza was served, Balloon Fight tourney was had, and of course plenty of Rock Band 2.

The NARP after was pretty small as most people were either tired or had found something better to do. It was me, power-glove and Cataract enjoying some two player Altered Beast. I also introduced Cataract to my first shmup: Phelios for Sega Genesis. We ended up closing the night off with Wizard People (if you haven't seen it, the whole thing is up on youtube). Beer makes that movie infinitely funnier. I think I passed out around 3 am. It was more like a chill get together than a party, but still fun.

All in all a good weekend filled with lots of free stuff. I'm still convinced that DtoidNYC is the coolest mini-community ever. Thanks for making the weekend awesome, guys :)

Unfortunately, the lighting of the bodega where this event took place was not conducive to taking pictures due to poor lighting. Also, the actors that played Ryu and Zangief in the College Humor series Street Fighter: The Later Years attended the event.

Here is a picture all of the swag that we got.

I, also, want to thank you very much for allowing me into your home. I had a great time on Saturday.

This was absolutely an amazing weekend. Thanks a lot for helping me with the trains, and especially for letting me crash at your place for both nights.

Although I didnt get a chance to get a picture of it, I ended up having my hat signed by the guy who played Zangief in the "Street Fighter: The Later Years" series. He's a really awesome guy, and had no problems answering questions and just being generally down to earth. Also, he told me that they're planning on doing a lot more with the series, so keep an eye out for something to come up.

After this awesome weekend, I actually full-on challenge any Dtoid group to be as amazing as DtoidNYC. If you can prove it to me, then just maaaaaybe you might get an awesome, SF4 related prize.

That Guile electrocution shirt/poster is fucking awesome.

Are you guys allowed to talk about the HD Remix - like, how it actually plays and stuff? Or are they forcing you to keep quiet on everything?

@ Char Aznable

We'll allowed to talk about it :)

I posted a long comment in NihonTiger's blog. But I a nutshell HD Remix is beautiful and really, really smoothly animated.

SFIV was running on 360s and PS3s. There is virtually no difference between them. Really good looking and smooth. I didn't notice any hiccups.

Akuma is weak, and Sakura is overpowered. I nearly perfected an Akuma player at the event, and a good Sakura will juggle to for days.

If I'm not too lazy, I'll Cblog about it. But SFIV and HD Remix are easily first day purchases.

Great, just what I was hoping to hear. Thanks, man.

Akuma should be an unstoppable killing machine at all times, though, competitive balance be damned.

That Capcom event was seriously the highlight of my month.

Cataract & Casual were all up in everyone's grill with the hella-tight Street Fighter Skill, and the swag was awesome.

Hooray for private parties that make me feel important!
