So, the NAVA meeting was way fun. Attendees: Tino, Cataract, Zen Albatross, myself. (If anyone else from destructoid was there I'm sorry, however these are the people who identified themselves.) You guys missed free pizza, MAMEOX, and Nintendo World Championship 1990.
In the gallery are some photos I took of the actual store. If you look closely, you can see that the one wall is filled with games for the following: Game Gear, Saturn, N64, Genesis..and I think some sort of Atari system. They had several arcade machines including a MAME cabinet, and Marvel vs Capcom 2.
For your viewing pleasure...the photos!
Nothing like seeing the old next to the new.
Cataract is my friend for answering correctly when I yelled, "Give 'im the stick!!!"
Zen Albatross, deeply concentrating on getting 50 coins in Super Mario. He and I did not score very well in this competition. Notice the piles of retro games (you can't see the Genesis games very well, but they are there).
Three TVs of fun. The Xbox (top TV) had a MAME program on it, I played Puyo Puyo 2 for a half hour.
I get really, really into screaming during the end vocal solo part. I should be in a metal band.
Cataract won second place in Nintendo World Championship 1990. For those of you who don't know, Nintendo World Championship is a (very rare) cartridge for NES (you may recall,
The Wizard.) Officially, a player has six minutes and 21 seconds to play in the contest, which is divided up into three minigames. The first minigame of the competition is to collect 50 coins in Super Mario Brothers. The next minigame is a version of Rad Racer where players must complete a specialized Nintendo World Championship course. The final minigame is Tetris and this lasts until time expires. Once time does expire, a player’s score is totaled using the following formula:
* Super Mario Brothers score
* + Rad Racer score times 10
* + Tetris score times 25
This cartridge is worth about $5000. I scored something like 139000 pts, the winner had 249000 (a coworker of mine from when I used to work at Gamestop) and Cataract scored 2nd with 203000. It was a dollar to enter, winner got 80% of the money and 2nd place got 20% (it was only $39 dollars I think haha). Tino got third (which wins NOTHING) with 198,000ish. I feel kind of pathetic, even though I did manage to get myself a tetris in the last part (not easy to do since the controls were a little crazy).
We all got a little tired toward the end of the night.
All in all, the day was freaking sweet. Plenty of videogames and fun and such. Sucks if you missed it.
Oh! I almost forgot! Joe (the guy who owns the store) asked me if I wanted to work there for a summer. So now I have a totally bitchin second job. Very exciting.
Haha that was a good time for all.
Always great to see people hang out and have fun all cuz of games.
Killjoy.
...Oh, sorry. I was talking to Joe.
OOOOooooOOOOOOooooo
