So I figured in order to force myself to post more regularly I should have a serial blog of sorts (insert witty breakfast food remark here). And what better to post with than some interesting toys/gadgets/random crap every once in a while?
I'm going to try to stay away from ThinkGeek as much as possible, since I'm sure many people here already visit that site regularly (I'm on their email list too). That said, I'm going to probably make many, many National Console Support references because that's the other vendor that I frequent.
For day we have: The Xbox 360 Ocean Blue Shell
Have you ever looked at your Xbox 360 with love and said, "Hey baby, let me void your warranty?" Well now you can do it in style with the Ocean Blue Xbox 360 Shell! Apple is the company that made white the new black, but I think it's about time to make blue the new white. This is a particularly well-chosen shade, even if it doesn't really match the tone of the blue controllers released by Microsoft. One of the cool things about the shell is that is translucent, so you can see all of the fancy machine parts that make your system function/RRoD/
burn your house down. This shell would probably look pretty nice with the Halo 3 or Mass Effect faceplates.
As a disclaimer (and mentioned above) replacing the shell on your 360 WILL void the warranty. However if your warranty is expired or you just don't care, this is the product for you. The National Console Support website offers some pretty detailed, illustrated instructions for both removing your current 360 shell and installing the newer, bluer one.
It's a little bit pricey at $49; however being able to impress all your friends with your fancy-looking console will probably be worth it.
For those of you out there who want more bling for your buck, you could always try the
Champagne Gold Shell, however it is more of a bronze than gold and not quite as impressive looking as the ocean blue shell.
Nerd Scale Rating (1-lowest, 10-highest)
I'm going to rank this up as a 6, since anyone willing to shell out $49 just to fancify their system has to be pretty nerdy. Other nerds will probably only be slightly jealous if you own this.
As spiffy of an idea it sounds, it looks really bunk.
it's all about Chrome
nothing sexier than seeing your own pimpled ridden face on your console1!
Unfortunalty, the NCS website is sold out of the chrome, black and transparent casings. You could probably google that shit though.
I'd say it's an 8 on the nerd scale, since it voids the warranty. No nerd wants that.
I just don't think I coud invest in something that already hurts the life of my fragile 360.
When my warranty runs out, I'm encasing my 360 in meat so I can game and cook in one shot.
I've changed the shell of my controllers like 4 times, it's quite fun. However, like BSD said, the 360 is fragile as hell. There's no way I'm attempt to change the case, no matter how much I want to. I am looking into pimping my DS though
Get a patent on that meat shell idea before someone steals it.
Would want if I had a 360 :(
Wow, that is hawt
I would give that a 7 on the nerd scale. If you were to add a game logo or emblem, you could 1 or 2 points to that score.
it looks like one of those coloured N64 consoles that were half tranparent and crap..which never looked good =P

Achievement Unlocked! Bill Gates Grill
Hmm well feedback shows me that I was pretty close at least with my rating, see as roughly half of the people think it's a piece of shit and the other half think it should be rated higher.
I don't really like that shell though...
If I do a case mod on my 360 I will make sure it includes water cooling since I would be voiding the warranty. Now as the newer systems prove they are getting better I do see these as cool mods. And its nice to have something unique without having to buy one that is olive green.
I wonder if MS will even work on them once the case is changed cause even if it is out of warranty (though 3 yr RROD coverage most system still are not quite yet) it would suck not to be able to get it fixed for the say 140 dollars or so they were charging for a refurbish them.
the sex, my first one was all pink then it red ringed me, i wept, cant say i blame it tho.
@Pedro that is just sex. SEX
go to llamma.com
I'm looking into a paler blue one myself, but gonna wait until mine rrod's on me first.
any other system i'd do this for. but for the RRoD360, i'd pass. I can't void the only thing that relys on me to keep a 360 longer than I should.
do want :( in red.
Maybe when they stop red-ringing as much I would look into voiding the warranty.
i bet it highlights the rings of death magnificently.
like my balls highlight your chin?
owned.
you are adorable :)
Whoa, that's freaking awesome. If it's blue, I like it, period, and that, my friend, is blue. Anything to make the controller look the same?
@Mattfoo
you have blue balls? that sucks.
y yes it does. very sore balls indeed.
Mattfoo is my new hero.
Hotness. I don't think I should invest, as the desire to fill open spaces in the case with blue LEDs would be overpowering, and that's probably not good for the already poor air circulation. If I were going to change the case, though, I'd definitely install a better DVD drive.
