THQ has fallen short of their financial projections. In all of their infinite wisdom, they've decided to play the blame game. THQ is blaming Nintendo and music games for their shortfall. I find this very annoying. Maybe, just maybe, if THQ put as much effort into making games as they do in naming scapegoats, then their games would be better and more successful.
What really frustrates me about THQ is that they have the license to what should be one of the greatest videogames of all time - Avatar, the Last Airbender.
The creators of Avatar have created a beautiful, vibrant world filled with heroes and villains who control the elements and are who feel like real people. Furthermore, the series has a brilliant story, incredibly choreographed fight scenes, large-scale battles and beautiful music. (breath) It's incredibly frustrating that THQ is given all of the elements of a great game and cannot even produce a decent one.
Okay, THQ, here's some advice. Ax the plain 3D models and replace with cel-shaded graphics; the game will then be visually linked to the show. Play Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Okami, Beyond Good and Evil and Shinobi(PS2). Think about it.
Yeah, it's pretty lame to point the finger at another company when their own games have been pretty hit-or-miss lately (mostly "miss" for me).
Not to start a flame war or bash what appears to be your favorite show, but aren't you giving Avatar a little too much credit? I mean, realistically, saying that an Avatar game "should be one of the greatest videogames of all time" might be overstating things a bit.
Char ga!!!
Yeah, it's a bit of hyperbole, but I think that if a developer had announced the world and characters of Avatar as the basis of a game instead of an animated show, gamers would have had a giant nerdgasm. When a world as unique as Avatar's is combined with martial arts, elemental super powers and huge battles, it should be perfect.
BTW, Avatar is my favorite show written by Americans; I'm more of an anime fan, with Gundam being at the top of my list of obsessions. All I want is one Avatar game that's as good as Locus of Heroes or SD Gundam Gashapon Wars.
Nintendo is to blame for everything, even war and hunger.
Anyway, your complaint over the universe avatar has and the game we got makes me laugh, I thought the same thing about the transformers game, robots that turn into cars and this huge backstory to work with, what do we get? A beat-em up with timed missions and shitty driving mechanics.
Sieg Zeon!
Honestly, I've never given Avatar much of a chance when I saw it, so maybe I'll take a look. Is it still on?
Hmm, what is Locus of Heroes? I've never heard of that, and not much is coming up on Google (aside from something titled "Masculinities Archive," which I'm staying far, far away from).
Locus of heroes is a Gamecube exclusive Gundam game that goes through all of the One Year War stories. It's very cool and difficult. The controls are really good and Newtype abilities are well implemented.
I watched a few episodes toward the end of each season and it's a shame no one has been able to deliver on what could potentially be one of the best licensed game series in recent history.
Also music games are still something of a niche. Just who in their right mind would blame them of all people? Unless they're talking about games like High School Musical or something.
