About Me

Old-school gamer. I started gaming with the Atari 2600. I became an addict with the arcade release of Street Fighter II at my college. The SNES release pushed me into buying that system and a lame arcade stick. I haven't looked back since then. I still consider the 16-bit to be the Golden Age of gaming. The current generation is keeping me pretty happy, especially with the fighting game renaissance that's happening lately. And, yes, I'm old.

Proud owner of: Kiwi Gameboy Color, GBA SP, GBA Micro, PSP 3000, White DS Lite, Silver NeoGeo Pocket, purple SwanCrystal, SNES, Genesis, N64, purple Gamecube, slim PS2, Dreamcast, Wii and PS3.

Favorite Games: Last Blade 2, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Mark of the Wolves, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Zelda: Minish Cap, Dark Stalkers, King of Fighters, Mega Man ZX, Ikaruga, Macross: Do You Remember Love, Raiden Trad, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Valkyria Chronicles, Professor Layton, Killer7

Games on my mind:
Super Street Fighter II HD Remix (PS3)
King of Fighters XII (PS3)
King of Fighters XIII
King of Fighters 2k2: UM (PS2)
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (PS3)

Sad Panda: Gunota Headlines calls it quits
nilcam | 9:02 AM on 09.08.2008 5 comments

I am a geek in many ways - my hobbies have always been of the more nerdy variety, specifically video games, anime, manga, comics, gunpla and computers. As big a fan if anime as I am, nothing has enthralled me quite like Gundam. I love the UC Gundam series. I own every one that has been released in the U.S. along with hundreds of gashapon, action figures, OSTs and model kits. A few years back, a great Gundam forum, gundam.com, closed its doors. That was a very sad day for me. The community was tightly knit and free to share information, provide model building tips and discuss all things Gundam. All of this was done in a very friendly, almost flame-free environment.

Once Gundam.com closed down, I started frequenting Gunota Headlines more often. It lacked community and discussion but provided tons of information about all things Gundam. It was a daily thing, visiting Gunota. Now it has also closed shop and the net is slightly darker for it.

So is the dude in your avatar a Gundam character then? I've seen him before in other avatars and I've always wondered.

that's a chick name Feldt (I think that spelled right) who's in the latest Gundam, Gundam 00. so...yea.

I can somewhat feel the same pain as you. before really knowing much on the actual SRK/Tekken Zaibatsu peeps, I would frequent Fighter's Generation's forums...before they closed and a guy from the forums made at least 3 forum incarnations and then a chick making 2 after the last 3 died. We were a pretty awesome community for fighting games and other random stuff. Had emulator tournaments, talked about old fighters and stuff. I can say it helped me get into the KoF series more.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
