According to several Mega Man fansites, the next issue of Nintendo Power has a story about Mega Man 9 on WiiWare. The game looks like the 8-bit games, with slightly nicer graphics. If this is true, consider me very excited for a new Mega Man game in the classic style.
I seriously just came. Ok, not really, but close. I've been saying for years now that companies need to go back to the old 2D format like this.
First MegaMan, now I wanna see Sonic 4 in Genesis graphics done the old school way, as well as a old school Castlevania thats not on a handheld and old school Mario or Metroid too. Honestly, the old school stuff is just as good, if not better, than all the new shit they're putting out today.
Am I the only one who is actually disappointed that the graphics are literally 8-bit? Like I'm all for sprites, but I'd like to see some nice new effects or whatever on it.
Nice find. I hope this comes to Wiiware in a timely manner.
Im getting bored with the offerings.
In the same line as Cloud, a Metroid or Castlevania game would rock Wiiware hard. Dammit Nintendo, put effing demos or GB/GBA games in the shop. Those would sell like jimmy-hats.
I agree with Cloud09...we need to see all of those games go back to 2D on the new consoles. Christ, imagine a new 2D Castlevania on a disc-format...I don't care which system it's for. They could make that game HUGE.
I'll have to check out the NP issue about the MM9 news...kinda hard to read all the tiny print.
I don't see why everyone is thinking this awesome. It seems gimmicky and lazy. They made better looking shit on SNES. I wanted a genuine Mega Man 9, not a WiiWare widget.
Though that "turning around on a pill" shit looks creative and awesome.
I think it's absolutely awesome. Busted out the NES a bit ago and relived the fun of Megaman 2 and 3. Tried 8 on my Gamecube and was incredibly disappointed with the look and feel. Glad they went back to their roots.
HD or hand-drawn sprites with the same proportions as the 8-bit games would been awesome. I'll take what I can get but the music should be nothing short of FUCKING AWESOME or I will rage.
I am expressing copious amounts of joy the likes of which I've never seen myself express previously over this announcement. However, I must also air the same fears as several other people here, in that I fear this is going to be a quick cash-in on nostalgiafags and won't be nearly as god as the older MM games actually were.
And to be totally honest, I'd really like to see a game designed more like MM7. While it wasn't my favorite game in the series, I think it was the best looking and had the best gameplay balance, so I'd really have liked to see a game based on that design scheme.
I'm reserving comment on the appearance until I see it in motion. In the scans, the graphics look a bit better than NES graphics, but that may be due to the scan being shrunk down. I would love to see a very stylized take on the 8-bit sprites, sort of like Space Invaders Extreme, coupled with some high-quality animation. This approach would be very interesting and unique.
I think it looks pretty awesome. Everyone was bitching about how they wanted Mega Man to `return to it's roots`. Well guess what, He's fucking there. This is it guys. Square one.
And now some people (not all, thankfully.) are crying foul about the graphics.
I just feel that you people are crying over nothing. Would I rather have a game that looks like the PSP version of one? Sure. But am I any less stoked about this one because of the 8-bit graphics? Not on your life.
I want to know what happened to Faberge' Egg man. I WAS PROMISED FABERGE' EGG MAN.
And I lol'ed at the guy who commented that there's re-used assets in the game. This is CAPCOM. The company that put Morrigan in over 7 games through almost 10 years and never updated her sprite even once.
I want to read this article before making judgment. Initially I'm kind of disappointed, if anything because I can recall the stages from previous games that look really similar from the screenshots. You'd think since they've taken so much time off from the original Mega Man series that they would have been a little more creative?

Old-school gamer. I started gaming with the Atari 2600. I became an addict with the arcade release of Street Fighter II at my college. The SNES release pushed me into buying that system and a lame arcade stick. I haven't looked back since then. I still consider the 16-bit to be the Golden Age of gaming. The current generation is keeping me pretty happy, especially with the fighting game renaissance that's happening lately. And, yes, I'm old.

I wish I had time to squint and read these scans now.
Never played the Zeros on GBA, but I'm still very hopeful, since so many people had good words for that series.
So. Great.
Hail Spacecat.
