About Me

Old-school gamer. I started gaming with the Atari 2600. I became an addict with the arcade release of Street Fighter II at my college. The SNES release pushed me into buying that system and a lame arcade stick. I haven't looked back since then. I still consider the 16-bit to be the Golden Age of gaming. The current generation is keeping me pretty happy, especially with the fighting game renaissance that's happening lately. And, yes, I'm old.

Proud owner of: Kiwi Gameboy Color, GBA SP, GBA Micro, PSP 3000, White DS Lite, Silver NeoGeo Pocket, purple SwanCrystal, SNES, Genesis, N64, purple Gamecube, slim PS2, Dreamcast, Wii and PS3.

Favorite Games: Last Blade 2, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Mark of the Wolves, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Zelda: Minish Cap, Dark Stalkers, King of Fighters, Mega Man ZX, Ikaruga, Macross: Do You Remember Love, Raiden Trad, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Valkyria Chronicles, Professor Layton, Killer7

Games on my mind:
Super Street Fighter II HD Remix (PS3)

My wife and I went to see Iron Man yesterday. It's a good comic book movie and probably in my top 5 comic book movies, but it's not the best as many people are claiming. On our way out, we always swing by the tiny arcade area for a few games of Time Crisis. This time we spotted something different:

Mario Kart GP was there. The arcade in the nearby mall has had several of these cabinets in their staging area but I've never seen them operational there. I was pretty excited. The only downside was that it was a single player cabinet. Still, I hopped in, dropped a few quarters, selected Yoshi and was able to experience the prototype foe the Wii wheel. The game is a blast and the controls were well implemented, though I did miss being able to throw items behind me. Drifting around turns was great and the sense of speed was pretty good. The six speakers on either side of the screen drowned out any other sound in the vicinity. Overall, I was pleased and the game was a great experience.

Public Service Announcement: Circuit City has The World Ends With You on sale for $29.99 this week. I'm heading there today.

Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

Is that the one with the camera, so it puts your face on the racer?

It is indeed SWPM, I'm pretty sure there's a sequel to the game in Japanese Arcades.

exodus1925 they're pretty frequent in most arcades in England, having said that however I have no idea on your location so they may be more rare in your area.

Ah ha! So it's also the one with Pac Man! Pretty cool that you found one of these. Now see if you can locate an F-Zero AX!

@SWPM: F-Zero AX was awesome!! God I wasted so much money on that game....

I personally hated this Mario Kart arcade, it felt too slow for me and a bit of a cheap knock-off

That's awesome. I'm going to hit some arcades in Dallas in a couple weeks... maybe I'll get to play one of these.

I know a arcade I used to go to in Virginia had it (I don't think they do now.) it's cool but it feels too quick after you finish a race. Still quite fun though. I like how the coin bit was impleneted in. I miss Mario Kart using coins as your base of stability.

I found one of these in a service station once, played it but wasn't too impressed. F-Zero AX on the other hand is currently resident in my local bowling alley and that is freaking awesome.

Yeah, one of my teaters has this too.
Those greedy basterds charge 3 quaters even when you win races.

"It's not the best as many people are claiming...", because the concept of a personal opinion is a scary, foreign one. :P

Anyway, as for the game, I played this one like three years ago back in Tucson. It was alright. Something about it just seemed off to me. Maybe it was the inclusion of the Pac-Man characters. I really don't know. All I know is that one play was enough for me.
