Old-school gamer. I started gaming with the Atari 2600. I became an addict with the arcade release of Street Fighter II at my college. The SNES release pushed me into buying that system and a lame arcade stick. I haven't looked back since then. I still consider the 16-bit to be the Golden Age of gaming. The current generation is keeping me pretty happy, especially with the fighting game renaissance that's happening lately. And, yes, I'm old.

The King of Dtoiders 2009 is over. Overall, I'm pleased with the results. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the whole community improved. In the first week, I had quite a few victories. That dwindled in the second week and plummeted in the third week. I'm glad that I was able to get people interested in the game and hyped up. Everyone improved, me included. Most of you guys pushed really hard throughout the competition and really made me earn the victories.
Statistics 15 players signed up for the competition. Of that 15, 7 completed all 15 games.
Games played: 153. Of those games played, I won 108.
Week 1: 44 wins, 11 losses; 55 games played
Week 2: 40 wins, 19 losses; 59 games played
Week 3: 24 wins, 15 losses; 39 games played
Most Improved Player This was a tough call to make. Mentok and decoyb both put in lots of work and showed improvement by the end of the tournament. Likewise, Jack of no Trades showed up later in the contest with a killer Ralf. He really put me through my paces. In the end, after lots of discussion, TheCleaningGuy earned the MIP title. His game showed constant improvement. His character selections changed as he learned new aspects of the game and he experimented with new line-ups and tactics. Good work, TheCleaningGuy!
Prizes - 6" Mai PVC figure
- A collection of Chibi SNK vs Capcom 2 keychains
As stated, first places chooses a prize, then second, etc. Senisan and Zoel need to play a tie breaker match to determine who is the rightful secnd place player and who is third. Once that's decided, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th place winners will choose their prizes.
Kirbilot has chosen the Neo SNK pack as his prize.
Zoel has chosen the Neo Geo Pocket Color and games.
Senisan has chosen Classic Neo Geo Pack.
I will mail all prizes at the same time in order to make my life easier. Please PM your choice of prize and mailing address to me as soon as possible. I'd like to mail the prizes out this week.
Videos Some final match videos.
My proudest moment - I OCVed someone with Kim:
Zoel kicking my ass on the last day. He scored 5 straight wins. I seriously could not stop his assault. This one's painful:
Nice job. I wish my gametime hadn't dropped off so precipitously that I got worse between the first and second weeks, then wasn't even around to play in the final one. School is kicking my ass right now.
Haha, ahh man you wrecked my shit in that match. I had almost managed to repress the heartbreaking memories of getting my super stuffed and then you rolling away for the win. Thanks for putting on this contest Nilcam! I probably never would have played KoF if you hadn't been so hyped about it at Evo. It was a lot of fun and I look forward to more matches with you soon.
I'm honored and surprised to be considered most improved! Thanks again for putting this all together, send me an invite whenever you're down for some more KoF (If I'm home, college is a real game-time killer). I need some more Iori practice against you. :)
Also, I love that you recorded the match videos, it's awesome to see how people play against you. I'll have to play Kirbilot again, I didn't know how vicious his California Bronze Benimaru was!
Nilcam, you're certainly the shit for doing this contest.
Congrats to you and the participants for being awesome. I totally woulda been all over this contest. On the 360. :)
I have to say, I wasn't much of a KOF fan but this contest has made me invest more time into it,lately. I've been going back to the previous KOF's to see how it's evolved and it's really fun ^.^ Thanks again for having the contest and kindling a love for this series. People are probably sick of hearing this from me but KOF 12 is the only fighting game that's made me RAGE so hard from it's lag. I fought someone the other day with full perfect connection and there was still delayed input lag ;_;
Congrats to everyone involved, I'm so sad I couldn't get my connection working in time to finish the contest. It sounds like it was a lot of fun for everyone.
One of these days, I will have real internet. One of these days...
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. We should seriously start up a ranbat or something. It would be nice if we could get a tournament season going.
@Wedge: I cackled like a madman at the time out with Joe.
Faptastic.

Never drink a whole lot then try to play KoF12.
Also Senisan is right. This game is awesome but is terribly gimpped by lag.
