About Me

Old-school gamer. I started gaming with the Atari 2600. I became an addict with the arcade release of Street Fighter II at my college. The SNES release pushed me into buying that system and a lame arcade stick. I haven't looked back since then. I still consider the 16-bit to be the Golden Age of gaming. The current generation is keeping me pretty happy, especially with the fighting game renaissance that's happening lately. And, yes, I'm old.

Proud owner of: Kiwi Gameboy Color, GBA SP, GBA Micro, PSP 3000, White DS Lite, Silver NeoGeo Pocket, purple SwanCrystal, SNES, Genesis, N64, purple Gamecube, slim PS2, Dreamcast, Wii and PS3.

Favorite Games: Last Blade 2, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Mark of the Wolves, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Zelda: Minish Cap, Dark Stalkers, King of Fighters, Mega Man ZX, Ikaruga, Macross: Do You Remember Love, Raiden Trad, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Valkyria Chronicles, Professor Layton, Killer7

Games on my mind:
Super Street Fighter II HD Remix (PS3)
King of Fighters XII (PS3)
King of Fighters XIII
King of Fighters 2k2: UM (PS2)
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (PS3)

Getting prepped for TvC
nilcam | 11:03 AM on 12.03.2009 22 comments

Tatsunoko vs Capcom will arrive in January. I already have my pre-order in. This game looks better than SFIV and I find the controls to be a bit tighter. It's not as fast as MvC2 but that's a good thing. Along with 4 new characters, online play is the big addition. The problem with this is that the Wii online has wireless internet built in. WiFi + fighting games = fail. In order to get the best connection, you'll need a Wii Lan Adapter. I bought one yesterday from Best Buy for $25. I then did a connection test with both wireless and LAN and found LAN to be much faster. I'll be hitting up some Naruto Shippuden online now that I have a wired connection.

The other piece needed to fully enjoy TvC is a stick. Hori makes a decent stick which, unfortunately, is not easily upgraded. Mad Catz is supposedly releasing a TvC branded version of their SE stick. This is a good stick and is easily upgraded, which is a plus. I plan on getting one and upgrading the buttons and stick to authentic Sanwa parts.

I had a Hori stick (an Ex2) and quite liked it but traded it in for a Mad Catz SE which i fucking LOATHE now. I cannot upgrade that piece of shit fast enough, the buttons are loose and the stick unresponsive.

So yeah, my advice is if you're planning to upgrade then get a SE and the parts right away and just go for it. If it will take you time to accumulate then grab a Hori.

I'm sure people will disagree, but the madcatz stick is horrendous.

Yeah, I've been considering getting a LAN Adapter too just because of how amazing TvC is. Although I'm not nearly as much of an arcade parts whore as you are; I've been using a Dreamcast Agetec stick for years with MvC2, so the Wii Hori stick actually feels really good to me. I just wish it were a little heavier. But yeah, there's no fighting game that I've been more excited for than TvC. January can't come fast enough.

I would totally have this also if it weren't for Mass Effect 2 dropping the same month. I'm already in love with the Japanese version, and can't wait for the addition for the American version.

That being said, I'll try to have this by the end of spring next year, if not sooner.

@Zoel

The North American release will indeed be online, if I remember correctly. I still think fighters are better played in person, though.

I'm so ready for this game. I don't need a stick, though, as long as I have the Classic Controller, which has the best d-pad ever created by the gaming industry.

Also, LAN adapter = win, bought one long ago.

Last night I finished hacking up my Fighting Stick Wii by ripping out the internals, installing a Cthulhu MC and installing Sanwa buttons. I just need to get my hands on a multimeter so I can attach extra cables to it.

@The Toilet Duck

people hating on madcatz sticks are getting just that: Madcatz sticks

stop wasting money on a SE and get a TE. But anyway...can't wait for TvC. granted SEs are good after customized, but if you want simple and easy, TE > SE.

The new TvC guys (Frank West, Joe the Condor, and Zero) that I played around with at Capcom Fight Club were a lot of fun. Especially Frank West. He's going to be a fan favorite for sure.

I'm with Pedrovay, no need for a stick, the Classic Controller pad works amazing for this game. I can't freaking wait, I already own the JP version, and it was amazing without Frank, Joe, and Zero. With them, I can barely imagine the awesome.

Hopefully, my friend's online will actually support this game, unlike KoF. I want to play a legit match in SOMETHING against you, Nilcam.

The dpad on the classic controller is far from the best in the world, but it is pretty good. I prefer the analog stick for this game though(though I am forced to use the dpad in Guilty Gear).

I find that the Classic Controller is amazing for this, no fighting stick even needed!

I would have loved to get this game, but only on the PS360. Sorry I don't bring out the Wii unless I have a pair of dumb blondes I wan't to see in Yoga positions. We have been waiting for this game since forever... so sorry Capcom, you won't make a dime of me until you release this on the real fighter systems with real online abilities.

I'll be getting this, but I'll be stuck with WiFi >_<.
Still, I'd be up for some TvC with you, Nil. I need some revenge after my thorough KoF beatings!

@Crunshii: I'm sorry to hear that. There are some great games on Wii and Capcom is putting in a lot of effort to improve an already great game. I doubt the online component will use the Wii Network and, hopefully, will use GGPO.

@ Crunshii- Either you don't really have a Wii, or you really don't care to own TvC, or both. Saying that you want the game, have the console it's made for, but still wont buy it because you'd rather it be on another console, makes zero sense.
