About Me

Old-school gamer. I started gaming with the Atari 2600. I became an addict with the arcade release of Street Fighter II at my college. The SNES release pushed me into buying that system and a lame arcade stick. I haven't looked back since then. I still consider the 16-bit to be the Golden Age of gaming. The current generation is keeping me pretty happy, especially with the fighting game renaissance that's happening lately. And, yes, I'm old.

Proud owner of: Kiwi Gameboy Color, GBA SP, GBA Micro, PSP 3000, White DS Lite, Silver NeoGeo Pocket, purple SwanCrystal, SNES, Genesis, N64, purple Gamecube, slim PS2, Dreamcast, Wii and PS3.

Favorite Games: Last Blade 2, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Mark of the Wolves, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Zelda: Minish Cap, Dark Stalkers, King of Fighters, Mega Man ZX, Ikaruga, Macross: Do You Remember Love, Raiden Trad, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Valkyria Chronicles, Professor Layton, Killer7

Games on my mind:
Super Street Fighter II HD Remix (PS3)
King of Fighters XII (PS3)
King of Fighters XIII
King of Fighters 2k2: UM (PS2)
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (PS3)

EVO Day 2 update
nilcam | 11:16 PM on 07.18.2009 10 comments

Day 2 was much better than day one. The BlazBlue team tournament was cool. The guy typing in the team names screwed up and named our team Leaky rather than L337 Beat. Oh, well. We were eliminated in the first round by the team that went on to win first. I defeated their first player with Noel and then their second player beat me, Kirbilot and Kapkomi with his Ragna. Still, it was fun.

I spent some time in the SNK fans' section playing Waku Waku 7, Matrimelee, Mark of the Wolves and Martial Champions. I also talked about SNK and arcade machines with a guy named Chris. He brought most of the SNK cabinets at the show. His friend George brought 2 kid-sized SNK machines that are a new obsession of mine as well as lots of knowledge about arcade machine history and obscure Japanese fighting games based on Toho shmups. I met Dogface from the Dogface show and he was cool.

After dinner at a Japanese restaurant, we watched some of the semifinal SFIV matches. Seeing Daigo, Ed Ma, Combofiend and other high level players in real life was pretty awesome. Today justified this trip with its awesomeness. And tomorrow will be better.

I hear Combofiend's Viper in SF4 is pretty nasty, actually, I've seen vids... and it is pretty nasty.

Is Dogface's hair as impressive and awe inspiring in person as you'd think it would be?

@Jesus H Christ: It's more impressive and awe inspiring IRL. It's a life changing thing.

@Hamza: It was THE kapkomi. He recognized me from dtoid and we both flew the dtoid colors on Friday.

This sounds pretty sweet, I'll have to go next year. Any place where Waku Waku 7 and Matrimelee are played is a good one.

Team Leaky is going all the way next time. I had a blast, playing in the team tourney was way more fun that the singles. Sorry my stick wasn't behaving for you Nilcam, you must have intimidated it.
