Old-school gamer. I started gaming with the Atari 2600. I became an addict with the arcade release of Street Fighter II at my college. The SNES release pushed me into buying that system and a lame arcade stick. I haven't looked back since then. I still consider the 16-bit to be the Golden Age of gaming. The current generation is keeping me pretty happy, especially with the fighting game renaissance that's happening lately. And, yes, I'm old.

EVO 2k9 Day One wrap up

Evo day one was pretty awesome. I met RAB, Kirbilot and Kapkomi. RAB was pretty intense about his matches and ready to bring some pain to his SFIV pool. Kirbilot, Kapkomi and I all signed up for the BlazBlue tournament by Aksys Games. The BB tournament was a nightmare because the people running it were probably not expecting 150+ contestants. Kirbilot's Tager won his first match and was put into loser's bracket in the second round. Kapkomi was tearing people up easily with his Ragna until third round. I was still in winners at round three because none of my opponents actually showed up. My psychological game was apparently in full swing. After waiting 5 hours and not having one opponent to face, I removed myself from the tournament to seek out some Indian food. And it was rewarding.

Day 2 is kind of a non-day. The SF4 pools are all played on small screens and cannot be easily spectated. The big event for me is 3 vs 3 BlazBlue. My team will be Kirbilot (Tager), Kapkomi (Ragna, v13) and me (Noel, Jin). We're representing today. I think the team should be L337 B34t Agents, but we'll see.

I wish I could be out there with you guys, it's just not feasible for me to get to the west coast though. Hope you guys have a great time!

How could they expect BlazBlue to not be that popular? The only people I've seen who "hate it" are either SFIV or KoF fanboys. Everyone else has a serious hard on for that game.

Covah the game just came out in the States for the consoles, next expect a huge increase of players. Don't worry there still will be footage of them playing so you can copy there style! woooo

I watched for about an hour last night on ustream. I was hoping to see RAB but no luck. I did see an amazing comeback though, where Ryu had maybe a pixel of life left and won the match using a super and an ultra.

Good luck to you, Kapkomi, and Kirbilot. I haven't seen or heard what Tager can do and I have yet to test him out for myself, but I hear he's like Hakumen. If he gets an opening it can lead to a combo that does huge damage.

@Bloodylip: I decided against joining the SFIV tournament because I was burned out on the game. I'm pretty hyped right now so I plan on playing some SF when I get back home.

@de bloo: Rab was sent to Loser's Bracket in the first round. He then eliminated 3 players before being eliminated himself.
