Valkyria has taken over my life. It seems that once a generation, I am completely enamored with a (non fighting*) game. In the SNES era, it was Chrono Trigger. During the PSOne era, it was Suikoden. On the Gamecube, it was SD Gundam Gashapon Wars. On the GBA, it was Advance Wars. In the current home console generation, it is Valkyria. I have not played any other game in the past week and I constantly find myself thinking about strategies with each class. This is, most likely, my game of the year. I even ordered some of the trading figures last night. This is the game that I will compare all strategy games to in the future. It's that good.
*Fighting games are a constant obsession of mine and can be played for short periods of time. That's why I'm differentiating them from other games.
Yup! Sega actually made a good game. I'm shocked. I haven't even popped in LBP or plan to purchase any other games because I love the game. The art, the story, the gameplay. I like how it serves everything in short bits so I can play for a little bit and progress through.
I think my game of the year as you define it is Persona 3: FES. I probably spent more time thinking about how best to develop my Personas than about beating any other game for the space of time I was playing it this year.

about me
Old-school gamer. I started gaming with the Atari 2600. I became an addict with the arcade release of Street Fighter II at my college. The SNES release pushed me into buying that system and a lame arcade stick. I haven't looked back since then. I still consider the 16-bit to be the Golden Age of gaming. The current generation is keeping me pretty happy, especially with the fighting game renaissance that's happening lately. And, yes, I'm old.

Dtoid loves Valkyria. Too bad I'm not really into tactical/strategy RPGs.
Dtoid does love Valkyria. I'm all over it.
One of the best games this year easily.

This game seriously came out of nowhere! I never even heard about it until a few weeks ago!
I will have to buy it. I think that I will get this instead of Resistance 2.

This game makes me wish I owned a PS3. If the system were a little cheaper, I would be all over it. :(
As it is, I'll probably have to hijack my buddies' system to play it in short intervals. :(
