About Me

Old-school gamer. I started gaming with the Atari 2600. I became an addict with the arcade release of Street Fighter II at my college. The SNES release pushed me into buying that system and a lame arcade stick. I haven't looked back since then. I still consider the 16-bit to be the Golden Age of gaming. The current generation is keeping me pretty happy, especially with the fighting game renaissance that's happening lately. And, yes, I'm old.

Proud owner of: Kiwi Gameboy Color, GBA SP, GBA Micro, PSP 3000, White DS Lite, Silver NeoGeo Pocket, purple SwanCrystal, SNES, Genesis, N64, purple Gamecube, slim PS2, Dreamcast, Wii and PS3.

Favorite Games: Last Blade 2, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Mark of the Wolves, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Zelda: Minish Cap, Dark Stalkers, King of Fighters, Mega Man ZX, Ikaruga, Macross: Do You Remember Love, Raiden Trad, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Valkyria Chronicles, Professor Layton, Killer7

Games on my mind:
Super Street Fighter II HD Remix (PS3)
King of Fighters XII (PS3)
King of Fighters XIII
King of Fighters 2k2: UM (PS2)
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (PS3)

By nature, I am a collector. I started with comic books when I was 10. I started collecting action figures when I was 17. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a craze collector. I open my action figures in order to display them properly. You know, "display." And by display I mean play with them, especially those mini Transformers. I still have the boxes for every SNES game I ever bought. GBA games are a different story, unfortunately. I decided that there were too many GBA boxes so I bought plastic cases and organized them in a nice tupperware type box, for protection and neatness.

Here's what I'll never understand - why do so many used games at game shops not come in cases? Why would you throw away the DVD case for your PS2/Gamecube/Xbox/PS3/Wii/360 games? They're a great way to keep your games in good condition and they look nice on display The same goes for PSP and DS cases. And why do so many game discs look like they've been used as a discus in the olympics? I'll never understand having such disregard for purchased items.

Because some people only care for when the piece of equipment works, and when it doesn't, the sell it and move on.

With Gameboy and GBA carts it makes sense- a lot of people would prefer just keeping the carts in a backpack to keeping the boxes, since the boxes aren't as durable. Similarly, for people who move frequently (such as college kids, and kids of divorced parents), just taking the carts, or keeping Discs in CD cases makes more sense.

i've switched ALL my single and upcoming dvds to thinpaks and collections into DVD bricks, saving space

I have not switched my games over to that format, but i'm looking for good solid alternatives. The gamecube games alone drive me crazy looking for slim case alternatives >_>

I keep all my game cases though sadly I threw away my GBA boxes.
Also I contribute to the games with no cases as when I (as rarely as I do) trade in games I keep the cases so I can have extras.
@CypherVR
You could try the japanese Gamecube cases as they are smaller

I always keep all of my boxes for everything ever. My mum doesn't get why and it's becoming more difficult defending my impulse for doing so.

Yeah, it makes me wonder if the previous owners kept the disk on a spindle, or used it to place drinks on.

What I hate more is when Gamestop puts those damn hard-to-remove price stickers on the case, even on brand new games.

Some people are morons. That's as simple an explanation I can come up with.

I've noticed that pre owned US stores and sellers most of the discs look like ass. I order a lot of games on eBay from japanese sellers for like the saturn and dreamcast and they have everything in perfect order, even the spinecards.

My all-purpose one-liner for that reasoning is "Because they aren't us."
