About Me

Old-school gamer. I started gaming with the Atari 2600. I became an addict with the arcade release of Street Fighter II at my college. The SNES release pushed me into buying that system and a lame arcade stick. I haven't looked back since then. I still consider the 16-bit to be the Golden Age of gaming. The current generation is keeping me pretty happy, especially with the fighting game renaissance that's happening lately. And, yes, I'm old.

Proud owner of: Kiwi Gameboy Color, GBA SP, GBA Micro, PSP 3000, White DS Lite, Silver NeoGeo Pocket, purple SwanCrystal, SNES, Genesis, N64, purple Gamecube, slim PS2, Dreamcast, Wii and PS3.

Favorite Games: Last Blade 2, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Mark of the Wolves, Zelda: A Link to the Past, Zelda: Minish Cap, Dark Stalkers, King of Fighters, Mega Man ZX, Ikaruga, Macross: Do You Remember Love, Raiden Trad, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Valkyria Chronicles, Professor Layton, Killer7

Games on my mind:
Super Street Fighter II HD Remix (PS3)
King of Fighters XII (PS3)
King of Fighters XIII
King of Fighters 2k2: UM (PS2)
BlazBlue: Continuum Shift (PS3)

A new member in the family - HRAP3 Amazon Edition
nilcam | 12:43 PM on 08.28.2008 17 comments

I'm always excited to get new hardware, doubly so if it's gaming related. The most exciting new hardware, besides a new gaming system, is a good arcade stick. Today, the newest addition to the family arrived - the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 Amazon Edition. When I posted about this purchase, Shin Oni called out the "pics or it didn't happen" meme, so here we are.

The unboxing

The Amazon JP logo and I were both smiling.

The box

It's very white and clean. Does it have the Apple look? Maybe.

The stick

It's wrapped in magical blue paper, which hides its awesomeness as it moves through customs.

The HRAP3 in all its glory.

Dan approves the HRPA3 (pronounced hurap 3).

The family

Here's the HRAP3 with the rest of the family. The sticks are laid out in order of quality - the SNES stick is the lowest quality, but it was the only stick I could find at the time. Unfortunately, I cannot find my ASCII SN Fighting Stick. The X-Arcade has been modded with Happ competition buttons and is okay. I find myself moving away from the American-style stick, though. I love the Hori Wii sticks, especially for VC/SNK games. The FS3 is pretty good - I rate it even better than it should be because I got it for $29.99. Finally, the HRAP3, the best arcade stick I've owned. After playing a few rounds of Capcom vs. SNK2, I seriously thought about not returning from my lunch break. It's going to be a long day.

Looks damn sweet, PS3 controllers have USB cords, can they hook up to a pc fairly easily?

Thanks. I may splurge and get one; not really liking the Soul Calibur IV stick anymore.

Not really related, but did you check out the TvC videos on youtube yet? They're under jchensor's account. Do a quick search under that name, click on a vid, click "view high quality", and prepare to be amazed.

Solesurvivor: The HRAP3 is PC compatible; the FS3/SCIV stick is not.

Casualweaponry: I'm an anime and gaming nerd. TvC hits me very hard. I have seen the videos and I'm praying for a PS3 release. I'd highly recommend the HRAP3.

lol Yeah, was there any point in blurring out the 'e' in the middle of your first name? What else could it be? N'gil Croal?

That's quite the impressive collection you've got there.

For some reason, I thought I'd only leave the letters that spelled my username.

@Nilcam

I too hope for a PS3 TvC release, especially after seeing Street Fighter 4 in person. Hopefully it will stay region-free, so I can import it at least if licensing issues kill an official US release.

You actually used your internet name for your shipping address?

No, my internet name is an abbreviation of my real name.

now I need to find me one. I'll need it big time once I start hunting for a BC PS3.

I have two HRAP 2's and the HRAP 3 looks to be just as sturdy and kick ass but even sexier. Nice score for $30! Hori rules!
