Old-school gamer. I started gaming with the Atari 2600. I became an addict with the arcade release of Street Fighter II at my college. The SNES release pushed me into buying that system and a lame arcade stick. I haven't looked back since then. I still consider the 16-bit to be the Golden Age of gaming. The current generation is keeping me pretty happy, especially with the fighting game renaissance that's happening lately. And, yes, I'm old.

We went to the arcade in Tulsa today. We had a coupon which gave us 40 tokens for $5 and proceeded to blow all of it. First, we beat the X-Men game. The voice acting is horrible and the game is essentially TMNT but it's awesome. I love that players can kick enemies when they're down. During the course of the game, I played as Cyclops, Colossus and Wolverine. Wolverine is by far the easiest character to use. After beating the X-Men, I played Raiden and discovered that my time with bullet hell shmups has made me suck at Raiden. We played a game of air hockey and some skee ball, which scored us a Batman sticker. Before leaving, I fit in a game of the latest Time Crisis and Initial D. If I had 25 tokens in my pocket, I would have bought an Initial D driver's license as a memento, but I didn't.

My wife's mother sent me a good amount of cash for my birthday with instructions to spend it. I bought a second Logitech wireless PS2 controller and Fatal Fury Battle Archives 2: Real Bout. I've not played these games before and they are fucking amazing. I am constantly floored by the gameplay, graphics and depth of these games. I've always liked SNK for SamSho, Last Blade and the KoF series but these games have given me a whole new reason to respect SNK. I like these games better than SFIII. Tomorrow, I'll spend most of the rest of the cash with The Batman Fifth Season, Batman: Gotham Night Special Edition, Gurren Lagann and Chocobo Mysterious Dungeon.

Speaking of SFIII, the friend with whom I played SF on my birthday is trying to form a fighting game group. He's got 4 people interested and has asked if I'm interested. I'm not sure if I want in on it. When I was winning the game, he was acting all weird and trying to stare me down. It was quite funny and somewhat annoying. My answer was to talk lots of smack to him. I don't think I could be in a room full of that much testosterone and be comfortable. I play to have fun; I can manage to have fun even when losing. I take a loss as a means to learn my weaknesses and try to overcome them. I strive to win, but I don't pout or get upset when I'm lose so I doubt that I would be a good fit in that group.

Awe MAN! I wish there were an arcade near me with some fighting games! The only fighting game machine in my COUNTY is in this BFE Theater with a projected MVC2. So I kill alot of time there. I really like your Kyo/Iori gif on the sidebar there.

Also, I was weened on SNK fighters with Fatal Fury 2 and the Last Blade series. If you don't have a dreamcast, you should get one and do some searching. I've got tons of sweet SnK fighters on that system.

Wow, jesus. If I'd read the side bar instead of looking at the pretty pictures I'd have seen that you're a veritable SNK freak. A silver NGPC AND a SWAN? Good stuff.

If you thought Fatal Fury was good, you need to try out Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Immediately.

I have Mark of the Wolves. I bought it in early 2002. It's an amazing game. I think I'm seriously blow away by Real Bout since I had never played any of these titles before. I honestly didn't realize that any of the Fatal Fury games reached such a high level of quality.

The Real Bout series is really good. The only problem I have with them is Real Bout 2 which has a collection of the stupidest endings I've seen in a fighting game for some time.

Sounds like a good time was had by all. Today is my g/f b-day, we're prolly going to go have some fun at casino and who knows what else.

The fighting game group idea kinda sounds cool.. I'm o.k. at Fatal Fury Special/SF 2/3, MvC2.. But I too just play for fun, and the occasional beer wager.. Later!
