Fun Facts about buying a Japanese PS3
nightv | 4:20 AM on 07.26.2009 9 comments

Some of you might have seen some of my shit posts before, but just in case you have not, I'll shoot you a little info.

I am one of those not so rare anymore but then made rare again by a recession: White man in Japan.

As such when I moved here I did not get a chance(lack of money) to buy my self a xbox360 or a Playstaion 3.

Well today was the day, I found my self looking throw the huge list of Japanese Wii games, which I got to say is huge out here and there are some great J only games, and then I saw it.

Today was the Yamata Danki "like a Japanese Bestbuy store" super Wii sports resort sale.

Now you might be asking, wait I thought you bought a PS3. This is where it gets interesting.
As it was a super sale of sorts for the Wii, people where buying them like crazy with out seeing that it was a store wide sale sponsored by what I can only guess was the Wii sports resort sale to try to sell more Wii s.

And as I thought it could be to good to be true, the Playstaion 3 80gb where on sale from there normal 39800yen price which is about $400.00 USD to the price of 34800 yen, which is about $350.00, and came with HDMI cables as well as 2500 yen or $25 bucks off of any game.

So today I walked a way with PS3 Katamari Damashii and HDMI cables for a total of 36200 yen or $365.00 US green backs.

O today was a good day for my ever growing need for video games.
Now I got my Famicon, Super Famicom, Wii (Both US and Japanese) And now my shiny new PS3.Now that I am all set for that week of off work for Obon next month I can freely waist away my work time knowing I got my summer gaming all lined up for me this year.

So what did we learn today. We learned it does not matter if the Wii is the number one console on the market, as long as it keeps giving me sweet deals on other system software and systems. (/^-^)/

1/1 scale Gundam mini review.
nightv | 2:13 PM on 07.06.2009 11 comments

As I come back from a long weekend in Tokyo to my home sweet home in Yamaguchi, feeling like crap from a 5 hour train ride on the Shinkonsen bullet train wile getting what I can only guess to be Swine Flu from the poor venting section non-smoking section of the train, I can only feel a sense of self fulfillment.

Just to see this monolith was amazing. To think that a company would build a life size 1/1 scale Gundam for its fan base is simply impressive. Not to mention the fact that they are not charging to see the 35 ton robot titan, but the fact that they have guards and cleaning crew take watch over this great to make sure that it will be in its sparkling glory (even though it is the rainy season) before it is taken down.

On detail I would have to say this thing is scary as hell and with the masses of people watching over it gives me a bit of an unsettling feeling when looking at it. Its massive, its beautiful, and its brilliantly located. The surrounding area complements it very well and from some view would make you even imagine it gearing up for combat.

There was only one problem I had about it, and that is the fact that you can not even get really close to the thing as they have put up a fence around it that somewhat kills the mode and takes away from the epicness of a full 1/1 scale Gundam.

I am going to grade this 2 ways.
Epic greatness of things that Japan has made.
And
Pure crazy that this was even built.

On Epic greatness, unless you’re a hardcore Gundam fan you would not give 2 cents that this thing is even there. You might even give it a what so special about it if you did not look at the real detail of the giant.
As for me being a long standing fan, I loved it and had fun just taking pictures of it. But I live in Japan and it was not that hard for me to get there to look at it.
All that said I don’t think flying over to Japan to see the thing is the way to go if you don’t live here, Unlike the really nice group of German people I meet in a Gundam fan club which said they came to the monolith 4 days in a row just to be close to it. 7 of 10.

On pure crazy, I would have to say this thing was breath taking and gave me a feeling of hope/dread that a thing like this could really be made pushing us one step closer to giant robot warfare. Yes it looks that real in person. 10 of 10.

I might post some videos later but for now please enjoy the pictures.

nightv | 4:15 AM on 07.03.2009 5 comments

As many of you might know, a 1 to 1 scale Gundam has been finished for some time in Odiaiba in there massive park.

But I don't know how many people will really be seeing this thing, so I thought hey I will ask the Dtoid community if they want to see the giant robo on review with some pictures to was it down with and some impressions of the monolith.

Yes, I do know this is a gaming site but there are allot of Gundam games out there, and its a freaking 1 to 1 scale Gundam!

Leave comments and I will try to head out there if I can.

Duke Nukem Forever and the info rumor-mill (edit and update 3DR not going away!)
nightv | 8:18 AM on 05.18.2009 5 comments

I would just like to first say that I do read all sites and I am not for one or the other so much but as of late, I would like to make painfully clear of something that was posted on Kotaku.com and how it feels as with the vague topic info that they just copy and pasted that most the people wont even take the time to read or think about the full article of an other site, in this case shacknews.com/

Now I know this is going to look lazy but lets compare the rumor-mill topic that is not at all old about the good old duke game.

Please read the two and tell me if I am just being dumb or could this have been posted better.

link to the Kotaku page.

and the the original on shacknews.com here.

Now as it seems to me, this is a big deal here.

Some key quote if your going to post any would be
"As of June 2006, 3D Realms had self-funded "99.999% of the game (aside from a very, very small advance from GT Interactive, years ago, before Take 2 bought the game from them)," president George Broussard said at the time. "

And as this is stated, no wonder it took so long to make this game, they where self-funded. Even if this is a lie, there is something fishy here when you have things like this quoted or "on some sites" miss lead.
"Take-Two, which paid Infogrames $12 million for the DNF publishing rights in 2000, has sued the remains of 3D Realms, claiming that it is owed "millions of dollars" as 3D Realms did not deliver the anticipated game."

Last time I checked and I could be wrong so if you know better then I please post so, but Infogrames is not 3Drealms i.e Apogee Software Ltd.

Why would any one expect the $12 million for the DNF publishing rights was going to Apogee Software Ltd? And seems to be and outlandish statment that Take-Two is owed anything.

What is a publisher that does not fun a game they are now suing the maker of said game, I ask you? Lets look at this quote
"After 3D Realms shut down, Take-Two issued a statement that confirmed it had not been providing the studio with "ongoing funds for development of the title."

That is right, an ass hole.

Now lets see what the well "informed" members of kotaku now think

"The game must have taken so long because of how hard it is to put $12 million inside a digital file! "

"Yeah cause this 'spin' completely explains why George Broussard has gone into hiding, and hasn't said a damn word about any of this.

Any company head worth anything would have said SOMETHING by now.

I'm a pretty big fan of Duke... but at this point 3DR can suck it. Like someone else already said above, 'I'm sure 3DR would lie' *COUGHCOUGHCOUGH*. "

"They've been promising a game for 12 years, I'd take anything they say with ample amounts of salt."

"The laziest dev team in the industry expects us to feel sorry for and believe them?

3D realms didn't develop a single game themselves for over twelve years, I'm still all for Take Two milking them for all their worth which honestly probably isn't that much. "

"Well however many millions is owed, if I was a publisher and 12 years down the road no game was produced after countless millions of dollars were invested, I'd be a bit pissed. I wouldn't be surprised if Take Two tacked on some money on the debt as interest. I mean 12 years and no finished game? Seriously, how was this team funded, how many people were on the team and how much were they getting paid a year? 12 million sounds about right. Whatever happens, it would be nice to read a developer like Epic picking up the slack and finishing the game because well, Epic rocks and everything they make is awesome."

With the huge amount of people just yelling out typo, this is the image that is painted when you don't quote what needs to be quoted.

Now I don't know if the blame also lands on the readers but if so that speaks of a growing problem with the user base.

edit: Seems like Kotaku got a direct email from 3D Realms chief George Broussard which you can check out here. that helps clear some more things up, but the same problem remains with the idiot user base with even more retarded comments on the issue at hand.

But I feel kinda glad that it is stated the 3D Realms is not going away, but it is sad to see the Duke Nukem Forever team parting ways, and even more shocking is that they invested over 20 million in to this project of there own money and Take-Two grand total of money spent on the dev part of the game was only 2.5 million.

How do you all feel about that.

Red Steel 2 multiplayer debat
nightv | 12:40 PM on 05.05.2009 36 comments

Those that need to read posts better.

As in the last post I made, I had my post preverbal pissed on for the pure fact that no one truly got the meaning of the post, and added the on ideas of something over the fact of the game which is stated.

If you read the full post here

You will see that I made a strong enfaces on where the blame for bad and mediocre games comes from.

As well as many people not reading my full post before commenting.

I even when so far to say “And if a single person brings up Bioshock, for this argument is mental. We all know that Red Steel 2 is not going to be a Bioshock esc game.”

And then I see this being added “I now understand; many gamers, yourself included, for some reason feel that a game is "lacking" if it only has a stellar single player mode. I recall Bioshock being criticized for this.”

God know I love dyson and all of the things he has wrote and done on Retroforce go but I see this:
“So the devs need to cater to the fact that you don't like single player games, and that resources should be taken away from the single player effort to provide for a multiplayer one, thereby lowering the quality of the single player experience?”

I posted my post knowing this fact before hand.

I am sorry for those that where not following the game till now to only read my post after. But the original post still stands, they put them self in a area of mediocrity like other publishers, there is going to be a back lash and everyone will turn and blame the casual crowd for it.

I hate to quote Dyson for fear that it might seem like I am picking apart what he said but:
“Ever notice how single player games will have forced multiplayer in them, and how incredibly awful they are? Yeah, because people who make single player games usually don't make multiplayer ones, and trying to make a game type you have no experience in shows. You can see it go both ways, too. Most multiplayer games that are really good have mediocre single player to them.”

This is a great and intelligent statement and is very true but this company knows both, and even before hand there where talks about how multiplayer was going to be the big thing for it.

If you look at it from the other end, for what has ben posted and dev comments in the past, this looks like they are turning what was a multiplayer idea and planning and forcing it to be this single player game.

Why are poeple happy about Red Steel 2 with no multi?
nightv | 3:59 AM on 05.05.2009 37 comments

Let me just start off with this.

This was the 1st image that I found when I typed Red Steel 2 in to Yahoo image browser. Just putting that out there now.

If you have to say “I don’t have time to make a complete product.” then don’t make it.
Look at High Voltage Software that is making The Conduit.

I am going to rip this right for the wiki of info on the game that has been gathered.

“The online multiplayer feature of the game includes several game modes such as "Free for All" and "Team Reaper," and will have voice chat capability through the Wii Speak peripheral.”

This is what games should strive for. The only ones who really make the industry the way it is right now is the game developers that are producing these games. I am tired of seen people blaming the Wii casual crowd for buying these games. If there where no bad or mediocre games to begin with then there would not be a problem.

Its like blaming a kid(New Casual Gamers)
that is given a gun(Wii),
for shooting someone by accident(The Veteran Gamers).

Nintendo is like the gun maker.

No one should blame the kid, he/she does not know better. You should be blaming the person that loaded the gun with bullets, cocked the trigger and then turned the safety off and put the gun in there hands(The people in charge of game development).

Letting anyone use the excuse that “I left out a key part of something because I wanted to make an other area better” is at best lazy. Its like if a furniture manufacturer said, “The reasoning I didn’t make more then one chair for this 8 table dining set is that we don’t want to take away from the person that lives alone experience by tacking it on 7 more chairs to match the set.

Ubisoft’s reasoning is pure lazy, when small companies with less resources manage to do better.

And if a single person brings up Bioshock, for this argument is mental. We all know that Red Steel 2 is not going to be a Bioshock esc game.

We all know that we are not playing games like Red Steel for there great story, in-depth characters, or cinematic moments. We are playing it to hold a katana in one hand and shoot some one in the face with the other. The story is mutt at this point, and with that so is the single player.

Here was a chance to really take a cool and fun idea and bring it to the masses that would really play it. But all those people will now be playing The Conduit or yet a better multiplayer fps on the pc, ps3, or 360.

I mean hell there is a multiplayer fps WiiWare title already out. And with that there is even more reason that there should be no excuse.
