Red Steel 2 multiplayer debat
nightv | 12:40 PM on 05.05.2009 37 comments

Those that need to read posts better.

As in the last post I made, I had my post preverbal pissed on for the pure fact that no one truly got the meaning of the post, and added the on ideas of something over the fact of the game which is stated.

If you read the full post here

You will see that I made a strong enfaces on where the blame for bad and mediocre games comes from.

As well as many people not reading my full post before commenting.

I even when so far to say “And if a single person brings up Bioshock, for this argument is mental. We all know that Red Steel 2 is not going to be a Bioshock esc game.”

And then I see this being added “I now understand; many gamers, yourself included, for some reason feel that a game is "lacking" if it only has a stellar single player mode. I recall Bioshock being criticized for this.”

God know I love dyson and all of the things he has wrote and done on Retroforce go but I see this:
“So the devs need to cater to the fact that you don't like single player games, and that resources should be taken away from the single player effort to provide for a multiplayer one, thereby lowering the quality of the single player experience?”

I posted my post knowing this fact before hand.

I am sorry for those that where not following the game till now to only read my post after. But the original post still stands, they put them self in a area of mediocrity like other publishers, there is going to be a back lash and everyone will turn and blame the casual crowd for it.

I hate to quote Dyson for fear that it might seem like I am picking apart what he said but:
“Ever notice how single player games will have forced multiplayer in them, and how incredibly awful they are? Yeah, because people who make single player games usually don't make multiplayer ones, and trying to make a game type you have no experience in shows. You can see it go both ways, too. Most multiplayer games that are really good have mediocre single player to them.”

This is a great and intelligent statement and is very true but this company knows both, and even before hand there where talks about how multiplayer was going to be the big thing for it.

If you look at it from the other end, for what has ben posted and dev comments in the past, this looks like they are turning what was a multiplayer idea and planning and forcing it to be this single player game.

Anyways. Quite whining about Red Steel 2 not having multiplayer. Uncharted had no multiplayer and that turned into an amazing single player experience, and nobody complained what so ever.

In reverse, look at how the quality of the Halo single player campaigns dropped as each sequel put more and more focus on multiplayer. Reasoning? More resources kept being taken away from the campaign and got shoved into the multiplayer.

Just because a game is a shooter does not instantly mean it needs multiplayer. Let alone suffer from the Wii's terrible multiplayer network. The fact that Red Steel 2 is putting all of its focus on single player is a very good thing, it means they're actually committed to putting out something with quality rather than another mediocre game nobody remembers. This is a case where less is more.

Holy Crap! I don't want to be called a "Grammar-Nazi," but there are so many grammatical issues with this blog; I couldn't resist. Failure...

Maybe we should just hold out on this one. I for one was really bummed when I heard Uncharted 2 had multiplayer (even though it's Naughty Dog), but when I saw the trailer I was somewhat impressed.

Maybe this time Ubi knows what they're doing. I do remain sceptical, but that's just because of the technical limitations on Wii. Let's just hope for tight WiimotionPLus controls and a true 1:1 shooter. I don't want to waggle my way though MP with my katana, that doesn't sound like much fun

They aren't taking a multiplayer game and forcing it to be single player. They're taking a single player game that may have had aspirations of including multiplayer, and simply dropping multiplayer. Maybe it wasn't working well. Maybe due to time constraints. Metroid Prime 2 taught us if multi doesn't work well, to just drop it.

Also: emphasis, and Bioshock-esque.

Your grammar is so terrible and your blogs are so hard to read I can't quite understand what your trying to say besides "The game has no multiplayer, thus it sucks and developers are lazy." If your trying to make some deeper point, clean up your blog a little.

Enfaces? Did you mean emphasis? Either way, not every game needs multiplayer. The best multiplayer games have no single player (Team Fortress 2) or shitty single player (Unreal Tournament Series. And the best single player games have no multiplayer (Final Fantasy 6, Bioshock, Metal Gear Solid, I could go on). Like bwark-kupo said, STOP THAT.

Also, no I don't think Wii-Sucks is this creative.

Hi there,

You built your assertion around the idea that multiplayer is essential to having a complete game. Many did not agree. So no one could go along with your subsequent assertions around the omission of multiplayer.

To give a bit more direct feedback to your original blog, single player gaming can be fun without palpable story. Madden, Castle Crashers, Mega Man and Mario are completely fun experience without having any idea what the underlying story is. I found that, as a pillar of your multiplayer assertion, very weak.

Also, what these guys said about writing. We get you, but it may be helpful to slow down and form your thoughts and articles a little bit more craft.

Also, seperately, this would make a thrilling forum post, were it not a c-blog.

I love how you took my quote and attempted to make it look like I did not thoroughly read your blog.

I intentionally mentioned Bioshock, because I felt that it was absolutely ridiculous for you to set limitations on the discussion. Especially when the game was so relevant to the topic at hand.

The basis for your exclusion of this title was preposterous.

At it's core, it boiled down to the fact that you felt that the Red Steel developers were incapable of creating a quality game; therefore, any mention of a quality game in a response was groundless.

Your attempt to control discussion and short-selling of the development team displayed one of the most arrogant sentiments I've seen expressed in the c-blogs in a long time.

Also, I sincerely doubt that you can defend your assertions; as you've also failed to respond to any of the points made in the comments to your previous blog.

In conclusion, don't post nonsense unless you're willing to defend your claims.

Someone might just call you out on it.

Sorry I post and leave it as I have other things to do.

I did not know I need to stay by my PC for a long time and defend my post.

For instance I had to go pick up my girlfriend from work after I made this post since it was raining.

Hey, incredibly dense grammatically challenged user, all they're saying is "instead of taking the time to make an all-new blog, simply respond to the comments".

In hilarious fashion, you didn't even do that this time! You just took the time to make an excuse!

I hope you actually learned something from all of this.

It's not that we don't like you and never want you to post another blog.

It's that we want you to actually respond to our comments, and for you to show a little more respect to those who disagree with you.

I'm sure you felt that you had a valid point, so feel free to rewrite your original blog. Make sure to label it as a "repost".

I'd love to have an intelligent discussion with you.

Rucksack I think I love you now.

I now think it was a bad idea to rush type this and just throw it out there.

At Skribble why would you post this when its a real life thing. I live in Japan and my time and your time is different. I was posting this late at night so it would get some views. Girlfriend works at a bar and after we when out for a drink.

That is a normal thing for some. It might not be for you. So don't be so fast to be as dumb as I.

I might redo this as a video as that might be easier for people to watch.
