About Me
Hi my name is Justin. Some peopel call me Jay. I'm a writer from Northern Ky who deals mostly in short fiction. I play video games when I should be doing my job, cleaning my pad or making dinner for my gf (we have classic role reversal issues wherein I take on the role of a 1950s housewife and she is something of a luchador ninja).

Right now I am mostly playing Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, Borderlands, Ratchet and Clank Crack in Time, Half Minute Heroes, Loco Roco 2, Mass Effect on PC, Fuel, and that's all I can think of right now .

If you're up for some PS3 multiplayer add me.

About me?

OK, you want the quick version. Here you go: I just try to keep a good atmosphere and surround myself with people and things that I like. That's it really. Small aspiration I guess, but it suits me. I have my friends and my hobbies and the people I love. I try to keep them all in good space. I dig reading, writing, weird music, and old terrible movies that leave you feeling unfulfilled and violated. I'm a pagan who has spent the last 7 years of my life studying voodoo of all shapes and sizes from african diaspora to folk root to New Orleans mysticism etc.

Surgery Games (not games about surgery)
necrozen | 7:04 AM on 06.25.2010 8 comments

So I was looking over my portable gaming library and thinking about my upcoming surgery (gastric bypass), which will be happening in less than two weeks, and I'm thinking that I need to grab a few more games to keep myself busy while I heal.

You see, I'm from Ky, but I'm having my surgery in Michigan do to stupid insurance reasons. And because of this I will be spending a lot of time on the road and away from my ps3. However I will have my psp and my droid with me. In fact, I will be in Michigan for almost 2 weeks, and 4 days of that will be spent in the hospital recuperating after the surgery.

Does anyone have suggestions on some games to take with me? Specifically, I'm looking for a game similar to Class of Heroes - I love that game. Is there anything else like it?

Ah well, wish me luck! Big changes are on the horizon for me!

wonderful that you are planning on playing some games.. I did a recent blog about this and games can actually be very helpful in distracting from pain and discomfort. I would suggest games that require your full attention rather than more casual "pick up, put down" type games.

If you haven't played Kingdom of Paradise yet... it's a really nice RPG with some fun boss battles. You find scrolls that teach you moves so that you can create your own combo moves which are fun. You can probably find it pretty cheap as it was one of the first games out for the PSP library.

The Untold Legends games are both hack n slash RPG games, but again they do requre pretty close attention and are fun (though not graphically as nice as Kingdom of Paradise).

If you like shooters, Resistance Retribution was quite good... very similar to Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror which was also very good (Nice controls for the PSP having only the one stick). The SOCOM games are also really decent on the PSP.

That's all the games I can remember... it's been awhile since I used my PSP, but I would look for games with a story that will be involving.

Best of luck with your surgery!!!

@ Elsa

Thanks! Great suggestions! I just ordered the Untold Legends games from Goozex and I will be looking into some of the other suggestions you made very soon.

I don't have any game suggestions as I'm not much of a portable console gamer but I just wanted to wish you luck with your surgery and recovery.

I know it's not like Class of Heroes, but when I hear PSP, I think Peace Walker. The game is absolutely incredible.

If you like dungeon crawlers, Persona is really good, too. But be prepared for a LOT of random battles in that one.

Metal Gear. Any of them on the psp. Jeanne D'Arc was also awesome if you like strategy/rpgs. You could also just tally up websites that cause the psp browser to choke.

Won't mention anything about the surgery, as I hate hospitals. I get sick to my stomach from the smell of hospitals. Gak.
