For Halloween this year, I was an assassin from Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. Diablo II is one of my favorite games, and I liked the assassin's outfit the best. Thigh high socks? Hell yes!
How I made it:
This is just about everything I used to make the armor and weapons. Craft foam, basal wood, wire, paint, wood sealer, and glue.
At first, I wasn't sure if I wanted to make a pair of katar (easier) or a pair of claws (more badass), but then my boyfriend said, "Why don't you make both?" YES. At first, I connected the pieces using craft glue and wire. It wasn't holding together that well, so I used superglue after that.
A slot I cut in the top to put in the katar blade.
Wire in the basal wood
The handle of the Katar has a wire wrapped around it because I thought it would help hold it together. It didn't, so that's when I decided to buy some superglue.
I also cut slots for the blades of the claw.
Nekkid weapons
All done! (Notice my boyfriend's weird crab creature on the table behind me)
I used
this foam armor tutorial as a guide to make myself some knee and shoulder pads. I used
body adhesive to glue them to myself.
I bought a hideous, wide silver belt, folded it in half and sewed it together, but I was too lazy/cheap to buy a thimble, so I kept stabbing myself. D: I already had the gloves (from last year's Tifa costume) and black tank top. I bought three times as much fabric as I needed for the skirt, because I never sewed clothes for myself before (only for stuffed animals and dolls like ten years ago) and wanted extra in case I really messed up. It was the most annoying to make because I didn't know what I was doing and sewed it by hand.
I found the boots in a thrift store after considering some really lame boot covers in the Halloween store next door. They were a steal even though the heel tips were broken ($10 for the boots + $8 to get the heels fixed) and they cost less than the boot covers ($20)! I bought the thigh high socks from
Sock Dreams. They kept sliding down, so I glued them to my legs too (Weird? Yes, but it worked!).
Even though no one recognized me (I don't know where all the gamers hide on Halloween), I'm really happy with the way it turned out, I wasn't as cold as I thought I'd be, and the boots didn't kill my feet even after dancing in them (insoles ftw). Hope you all had a happy Halloween!
