About Me

My name is Naia (pronounced either Nay-a or Neye-a, like yay or like eye) I am I'm a starving artist in LA trying to keep my sanity. I do mostly freelance stuff and I'm always looking for people (even on DToid) to do fun projects with in entertainment. That can be either in theater, film, TV, or video games. I want to be like Kermit the Frog and be part of a group that entertains. I also love blue slimes, puppies and Sprinkles Cupcakes.

I've been playing computer and video games all my life. My dad's a programmer so we got an IBM PC very early on in the 80's. For Christmas in 1989 my parents surprised me with a Nintendo and it's been downhill ever since. I have/had an NES, gameboy (of all flavors) SNES, Sega Genesis, Sega Gamegear, Sega Saturn, PS1, PS2, PS3, Gamecube, DS, PSP, Wii, and 360. Whew!

I am a HUGE Dragon Quest Fan Girl. I did NOT buy an R4 to play Dragon Quest 4 in broken beta-english. I also do NOT play ROMs because I did NOT want to play Dragon Quest V and VI ten years ago in english, not knowing if I would ever see those games in the US. ROMS are bad :P Squenix can shit in a bag and if the bag has a cute slime on it, I'll buy it. I know it's a problem.

Also, Rydia is my hero.

I like games with colors in them aside from brown and black, even if most of the world calls those games "kiddy." Screw that! I play RPGs, Action/Adventure, Platformers, Puzzles, and Point-n-Click Adventure games. I will play fighters and shooters, but they have to be the right kind of game.

I'm such a nerd, I like to keep track of all the games I've completed in an excel file (it's around 300 something). Now that my backlog is out of control I have a word document for that too. My goal is to for once and for all eliminate the backlog, or at least keep it to a number in the single digits.

I have a lot of things to say about the game industry, it's something I care deeply about and love giving my opinions. I like to rant about shit. I'm here just to share what I have to say, in hopes someone is willing to listen. If I'm not here, I'm most likely wasting my life on IRC.

Also for the record, my Top 5 Games of All Time
1. Chrono Trigger
2. Final Fantasy 4
3. Super Mario 3
4. Dragon Quest 3
5. Phantasy Star 4

Yes, I love my retro games

Quick Blog: Dragon Quest V gets US Release Date
naia-the-gamer | 5:55 PM on 11.11.2008 15 comments

Thanks to Square Enix and Kotaku today, I received the good news that Dragon Quest V received a US release date for February 17, 2009. For those unfamiliar with the game, this Dragon Quest title (along with Dragon Quest VI) have NEVER been released in the US before. Those who like to NOT download ROMS can NOT find a fully translated version of the original title for the Super NES, but being someone who does NOT play games like that, vows to purchase games that I NOT download from foreign lands.

From their press release:

DRAGON QUEST V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
Scenario & Game Design: Yuji Horii
Character Design: Akira Toriyama
Music Composer: Koichi Sugiyama
Publisher: Square Enix, Inc.
Developer: ArtePiazza
Platform: Nintendo DS
Genre: RPG
ESRB: E10+ (Everyone 10 and older)
Ship Date: February 17, 2009

Never before released in North America, this entry in the Zenithia Trilogy follows a journey that transcends three generations. Travel alongside your father on his quest to see the world, grow to set forth on a journey of your own and face life-altering decisions as you continue your family’s legacy. DRAGON QUEST V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride makes its way to Nintendo DS on February 17, 2009.

The official website can be found at http://na.square-enix.com/zenithia/.

Of course, there are other games, they have announced, but we know that my love is only for the slime.

Given how long it usually takes to localize Dragon Quest games, I'm STUNNED that we are getting this game as early as February.

As someone who has played this game from start to finish and love old school JRPGs I would HIGHLY recommend this game. It's different from DQIV, but does incorporate the world of Zenithia like DQIV does. You get to choose who to marry (which really only changes the hair color of your kids). This version adds a third option of ladies to choose. Who knows what the third lady may affect the outcome :O

Sounds pretty shiny but makes me wonder what they do with the rest of the Heavenly Bride...

Yeah I posted this like ten minutes before it hit the front page. -____- Figures.

@Garison:

I've been here, just not posting a ton of c-blogs. I posted a c-blog the other day that got front paged though...

@Naia
No worries. Still sucks though. After you put effort in a blog you see it's on the frontpage.

Fap? I'm with SWPM, I never got into the series. I rented DQVIII, but didn't get far before returning it.

Just in time for my birthday! This news made my day a little happier. Plus, I liked your info on the marriage subplots. I'm such a sap ... I always love flirting and romance in my games, no matter how small. I always try to get with the sarcastic girl. Games usually push you toward this noble heroine character, but I always like the ones with spunk.

Awesome!! Strangely enough I love Dragon Quest mainly because of the cartoon I saw as a kid and not because of the games (they weren't in any rental place near me :/ )

Okay- I'm sort of going Dragon Quest crazy right now. I've never played one but I've always wanted too. I'm getting DQIV shortly, or should I wait for V? I definitely want to try IX...

man...DS is far too good, I haven't had a situation like this in a while. I wanted to get FFIV aswell...MAN one of the best dilemma's to be in me thinks.

Anyways what would veterans of the series recommend for somebody hoping to get into the series before the release of DQX?

I know VIII is super cheap but I don't exactly have as much time as I'd like to sit infront of a console for hours...Portable recommendations please! Unless DQVIII is one of the best RPGs of all time...

Help!
