"Does nobody check through the articles before they are posted?"

What'you gun do about it , I mean I can't do it , I can't do it.... can't do it.

haha, touche. i previewed it and it worked. then re-edited the text in the link. I have never done it before. Thats my excuse :D
Jim basically does whatever he wants, because he brings the hits, and he knows a ton about games to boot. Watch his latest "fanboy video series". Jim basically "figured it out". He can flamebait one day, make fun of the flamebaiters the next, and come out with a real eye-opening article/review the day after that: all of which will get 200+ hits, because he puts a little "dig" at the end.
Here is what people do not understand about the "recent odd influx of fanboys" on Destructoid.
As Jim grows in popularity, so does his image: good or bad. Reddit and N4G, responsible for hundreds of thousands of hits on Jim Sterling articles, have an irrational disdain for Jim. The catch is when you comment or talk about articles on those community sites, you basically GIVE Jim more press.
It's a never-ending cycle, and as a general rule, those people are fanboys WAITING to start an argument. The beauty is Jim has been playing games for a long time, and is a bona-fide hardcore gamer: so he could feasibly write about something interesting forever.
So don't worry. This is how community filtration usually happens.
1) Long term members are prominent on the site (respectful or rational).
2) Jim writes a controversial article bringing in younger kids.
3) Kids fight it out, eventually get offensive, and get weeded out (banned).
4) Repeat 1-3.

What Magnalon said. In fact every now and again some trolls begin acting rationally after they are exposed to the community. If you look at the change in tone of PatriotSnake's comments from when he first joined to now it's pretty impressive. I think Destrucctoid unstupidfies people when given enough time.
That's it. Eventually they "get it", get bullied out, or get banned.
A LOT of people that are here now started off without an identity.

yeah, i completely understand what you are saying and i already suspected the 'hit' factor. Its interesting to read what you both have to say about the fanboys/trolls/whatever. Its good to know that there seems to be a feeling of community unity and the weeding out of the bad eggs :)
I still feel though, whatever his motivation, that the negative blogs are not a good look and there shouldn't really be an excuse for that kind of behavior. Its a really bad example to set. It creates a bad vibe and makes destructoid an unpleasant place to be :\ I really cant believe that the staff enjoy all the hate mail and offensive language aimed at them from the readers. Just as the readers dont enjoy hate and offensive language being fired at them in the first place. It seems hypocritical and self-defeating. Surely there are better ways to get hits?

Not to put down what Magnalon said but I think Kraid more or less hit the nail on the head. This is the internet. I don't think any excuses or logic need to be inputted into it. This entire bastion is like that. It just is what it is. Cut and dry. You're not going to find any open community without these flaws. If you want a majority of respectful and thoughtful people you'd do best to go and group a bunch of buddies together outside of the internet because sometimes you can't get the hot chick without getting herpes. So you either deal with the herpes and enjoy the sex or you look elsewhere.
The reason I stay here is because I think the people that I would really call DToiders keep the site so pleasant and enjoyable that it's worth it if a bunch of asshats come over every once in a while. You'll notice our community is pretty brutal and our rules are pretty lenient so something I love is that those people have next to no chance of survival. Unlike a site like GameFAQs where the rules are so strict with such a "Everybody play nice," 1st grade mentality that douchebags can just hijack the whole site and nobody can do anything to tell them off or run them out. All they have to do is be douchebags within the GameFAQs bubble and it's tolerated.

... to be honest, I rarely bother reading the comments on Jim's articles anymore. Many of them are just hits at Jim and not even relevant. In fact I tend to only skim the articles on the front page looking for news of interest... much of what is posted there does seem aimed at evoking a fanboy response.
I mostly just stick to the c-blogs.

@Magnalon
I imagined your avatar in a white suit surrounded by TV screens just then...
Yeah, its a wacky destructive cycle. But, it does keep us in a fascinating balance. The fact the the c-blogs never *really* turn into complete crap is surprising.

I rarely bother to read comments on articles that are flame bait, much less comment on the article itself. In all actuality I believe that a great deal of the more interesting posts on this website are the ones with the fewest hits.
I think some elements in the regular community are ofttimes a little too eager to jump on some slight or compromise of the written or unwritten protocols of Destructoid. A dash of vocal fail here and there, peppering some individuals and groups with an (I feel) unwarranted sense of unwelcome, usually provoking withdrawal or retaliation and feeding the cycle. But it doesn't really feel like that's what you're getting at here.
It seems like you're referring to a cultivated sensibility that I don't, in my head, associate with the Dtoid community.
I'm pretty much with Elsa with regards to the Jimswarm. There are articles that he writes that are for a very specific and transient audience, and I seldom read their responses.

But, lately it seems to be descending into a childish pit of obscenity and disrespect.
hahahah "lately" hahahaha

There are a lot of good and bad things about Destructoid. Awesome thing is you can ignore the bad stuff and admire the good.
Have you heard of the internet fuckwad theory?
Normal person + anonymity + audience = total fuckwad.
