The Greatest MMORPG They'll Never Make
mudkip5000 | 5:06 PM on 06.17.2009 19 comments

Dear Nintendo,

Make a Pokemon MMORPG. It would be amazing if you can do it correctly. I'm not talking about a shitty Pokemon game with "online trading potential." I'm talking about a HUGE MMO with zones, servers, PVP servers, guilds, an electronic economy, and quests. Like WOW. WOW with Pokemon.

You could have 3 different starting cities for all players. Each starting city has a Pokemon Professor who gives you your first pokemon (I.E. Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur.) Players then run around the zones, leveling their pokemon, while catching new ones like Caterpies and Weedles and Marmadukes...cuzz they gotta catch em all. This is what all MMO's are all about. Constant leveling and grinding. And people would play the shit out of the game until they caught every single pokemon....and thats when you bring out the expansion packs with the NEW pokemon.....see....you'd make billions.

The players would get their pokemon to high enough levels to fight Gym Leaders and eventually the Elite 6. And think of the PVP possibilites. There would be players fighting pokemons all over the place. And if you even worked in a way for players to Play Team Rocket....forget about it. its GOLD.

Oh...whats that? How do we handle the legendary pokemon? Like Mewtwo or Articuno or Cthulhu? Well, make it so only ONE person per server can have that pokemon at a time...and if they lose a battle...it goes to the winner. It would be CHAOS...SCREAMING BLOODY PVP CHAOS!

There are still a lot of details to work out....but seriously...you could kill WOW with this idea. You could kill WOW and wear its entrails as a hat...that is...if you do it correctly.

Let me know what you think, Nintendo.
I am free to start working on this project right now.

P.S. To show I am a true fan...I've enclosed a picture of my Cubone collection.

I've felt like Nintendo should do something like this ever since back in the Red / Blue days. (before I could really fathom what an MMORPG was)

However, I don't think it would "kill WOW", since the barrier to entry would probably require that you own a Wii, whereas owning a computer is more prevalent and better suited for an MMO.

I'm pretty sure we've had this conversation several times before, I'm amazed they haven't jumped on this opportunity. I also would love if you could have user-run gyms, like the dude with the sandshrew who set up his own gym in the middle of nowhere in that one episode.

I know this has come up many times but it's one of the greatest ideas ever.

I've been saying that Nintendo needs to make a Pokèmon MMO since forever, but I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon. :[
Senger's Destructoid Blog
Sad thing is I would probably play it
Technophile's Destructoid Blog
They don't have to jump on it really. They own Pokemon, which means the best anyone else can do is make a ripoff.

Can you imagine the sheer amount of pedophiles that will be playing the game? It would be the greatest sting operation in human history.

Yea, I would love a Pokemon MMO, but alas, it will never happen. =[

Nintendo's bandwidth would be through the roof....

@ Umihara Kawase

I was thinking that for it to work they'd have to license out the Pokèmon mmo out to another company to develop it for PC and maybe 360 and ps3. Nintendo has nothing to lose by doing this...but it'll never happen.

This would be my first MMO.

So i heard u liek Cubones
mudkip5000's Destructoid Blog
@Monodi

man, when i was young and a pokemon TCG fan...i went crazy and started collecting all the cubones i could find. I went to all the card and comic shops and either bought or traded for all the Cubones they had. I'd goto the Toys R Us pokemon tournaments and trade the other kids rarer cards just to get their cubones.

It paid off eventually. I heard some kids talking about needing some cubones for his deck...and couldn't find any.

It was awesome. and by awesome...i mean sad.

As fun/awesome as a Pokemon MMO could/would be, I don't think I have any faith left in Nintendo that they'll ever make a worthwhile Pokemon for a home console. They honest to God just don't seem interested in even trying to. Also, their too content with obtuse online gaming via friend codes syruped in bullshit for an MMO to work.

And as far as losing rare Pokemon in battles; Damn I'd hate that. I'd probably keep 'em out of my party for all PVP battles out of fear.

I was writing a huge blog about this.

Oh goddamnit I can't believe I messed it up. Haven't had a BB failure in quite a while.
Cartman's Destructoid Blog
Nintendo would rather continue making more bullshit like wii fit then put effort into doing something like this
Pokemon MMORPG = People get addicted = people start badmouthing it for ruining lives = Nintendo gets bad publicity and loses family friendly status.
And this is exactly why I have always aand will always hate them.
But I will always love pokemon. <3
