I'm going to go with Aerith Gainsborough (Aeris)on this one.
Aeris is, or was, a simple flower girl who's life gets entwined with the main character, Cloud (OMIEGAWDS we <3 CLOUD) after meeting him in an alley.
She was the kind of character that the majority of people ended up leaving in the party menu, rather than in the party, thinking "oh, I'll level her up later...." as she sucked hardcore in battles. There was; however, a small percentage of people (.01%) that actually leveled her up and unknown to all players, that 1st play through (of epic portions !!!
SPOILERS..LOL!!!)
there will never be that later time to level her up as she DIES!

I would find her to be a tragic hero as she gave her life to her friends/loved ones, sacrificed herself for the better of the world as she became "part" of the planet and brought upon Holy. Aeris gave the ulitma sacrifice (see what I did thar!) and became the tragic hero.
Aeris was such a tragic hero that her actions out of the game world made grown men cry, made them restart their game to see if they might have messed up in game play to try to save her and even made people go as far as to write a letter to Square in complete disgust that they offed such a character as they were hoping that she might have lived, married Cloud and had little Clarie babies.
Who knows how the game would have turned out if she could dodge a fricken sword better!

I sent you an email as your PM never came through in the forums but it's all good.
So selfless in her actions. Basically went to her death, on her own, because she cared too much about her friends to involve them....yet she knew that she was the only one that could stop everything.
And she did! In the end, she saved the planet, like she knew she was destined to do....
I MAJOR <3 Aeris.....if she was a real girl, she'd be my wife. Period.
