Alright so I just went ahead and downloaded the full version of SSF2THDR without ever bothering to try the demo out first. Having been a long time fan of Street Fighter in all its incarnations (mostly a fan of SFIII in arcades), I was very excited about the visual revamp set up for this XBLA game.
Although I can say that I am satisfied with the purchase, there are a few things that really grind my gears, at least at this early stage. Mind you again, these are only first impressions and are subject to change with time.
1. The Music: for the most part I loved the new remixed sounds used in the game. I listened to these OCRemixes all summer and was getting one heck of a vibe from them. However there is I find a huge annoyance anytime it speeds up because one fighter's health is low, it just doesn't scale properly. The worst culprit so far has been Dee-Jay's stage, whose remix I know to be a lyrical affair. Also, the ramp up after the Capcom logo scared the shit out of me.
2. Other sounds: I don't get why Capcom would update the visuals without rerecording the sounds. A lot of the voice samples scream to be redone, and I found them to be very scratchy in places...
3. Ryu's Hadouken: Ok WTF: Down, Down-Forward, Forward + Punch right? Then why the hell does it only work 1/2 times. Ryu will go into his fireball launching animation but poof, nothing...what gives!!? This was infuriating as I have never had this happen in the 15 years of Street Fighting.
4. Animations: I can understand the reasons behind keeping the original animations I suppose, for those that enjoy the competition, but lo & behold, I see Capcom also included a classic GFX mode, ok so then why not have both sets of animations: old-school choppy SF2-style, and buttery smooth SF3-style?!
5. Characters: It just seems to me that some of the less popular characters haven't gotten the same kind of attention to detail as the original roster - looking at your Fei Long, he just looks off...
6. Menus: SHUT UP, why is the outlandishly too loud be have to happen every friggin' click!?
7. Difficulty: OMG I am getting raped on Easy wth?! Stupid Xbox360 Dpad...
OK so seen like this it might seem like I hate the thing, but I guess I'll get used to these. I hope to try it online this weekend see how that rolls. Let me know your annoyances with the final product, or bash mine if you will

It pushed me to buy a fighting stick.
which is for fooling the opponent
-Ryu has a feint Hadoken in the Remix version. You might be pressing Light Kick on accident. Or maybe you found a glitch.
-If you're playing Classic, the difficulty of the original game is notorious, and it's been left intact. I've only played the original (or ports thereof) so I don't know how it compares, but supposedly the Remix has been toned down so easy is actually Easy.
-That music thing sounds annoying. They should have specifically remixed the sped up music, since even in the original it's a different track and not simply the same file sped up. As for the SFX, at least they changed Guile's voice, although it's technically a step backwards. It's still an improvement though.
Too bad I don't have the hardware to play this, might have to visit my friend. On the other hand, I already have approximately 4 copies of this.... two on 3DO.
2 - I don't mind. I like it.
3 - You may be doing his new fake fireball. Check what mode your in (Classic or Remix) and check your controls.
4 - Do you know how many frames SF3 has compared to SF2? They were already over budget on making the art. The game would still be a year away if they wanted to make the animations SF3 style, as awesome as that would be. Its just not the way of SF2. It would be a different game...oh wait, SF3.
5 - How? I don't get your meaning.
6 - Turn down the volume?
7 - SF2 has always had outlandishly hard CPU.
2. The old school sounds are there for old school purposes. Gotta remember this was made by the fans and for the fans. So top players were involved with the project and listened to the fans (or..rather hardcore fighter crowds.) People wanted old sounds and there you go. I don't mind it at all really.
3. $60 says you're doing the fake hadouken..which is qcf+LK
4.Buttery smooth SFIII style? it's a step up from CPS3 stuff sir. Also i'm not quite sure they didn't add the old background stages as it does look goofy. But I guess it's cause there'h Hyper SFII in the marketplace too? so if you're really feelin for the complete old school game, I guess capcom will egg you out of your extra money. Doesn't really matter anyway, most will be on there for Remix version more than classic. Most of the ST players will just go to GGPO or somethin to play.
5. huh? needs more explaining as all 4 new characters (well...cept Dee Jay and T.Hawk...ok maybe just Dee Jay.) have had a handful of push/storyline indication. T.Hawk with Alpha 3 and the connection with Bison's all girl military. Fei Long gets more than enough love for being a bruce lee knock off...plus he's in SFIV. what more do you need?
Cammy...seriously, Cammy almost, if not, surpassed Chun-Li's fandom with the SF series.
6. sounds like a personal problem.
7. Nothing new. I think old school Mortal Kombat was even worse.
