I have a second gen 80 gig, and I can say absolutely do it. It's 250 for a 120 gig, and that's a fucking deal. The touch pad is great, and I personally love the interface. I also like the giant screen and the great video format support. Also, I don't know if this matters to you, but the Zune Pass is amazing. For the price of one CD on iTunes a month, you can download an unlimited amount of songs to your Zune. Good shit. DOITDOITDOITDOIT
Some cons:
+no movies on marketplace, but TV is there
+bad visualizer
+not as many artists on marketplace, but if more than 4 people like a band, chances are they are there.
Creative Zen. DO IT
What King Said. But I did ask this about 6 weeks ago in the forums, and they all said iPod if you like iTunes. But Creative Zen Vision M FTW.
iphone? I has one and it feels good.
Yeah I roll with the creative zen. Those are head and shoulders the best!
I have a Zune and aside from my computer starting to not recognize the fucker (which I'm 99% sure is my computer's fault, not the Zune's), they're great. The software is way better than iTunes.
I gotz a Zune80. Haven't regretted it yet. Also, the recent firmware upgrade makes things all shiny with Wifi access to the marketplace direct from yer Zune. Plus the Zune has support for XNA, so sometime down the line they'll add in games to the marketplace.
The only real downsides are the lack of an equalizer, and that you can't use it as a USB storage device.
Just to note though, my recommendations only go to the Zune units with the touch pad.
I love my Zune. I've had my 30gig for about 3 years now with almost no problems whatsoever. The firmware/software is better than ever and the thing still works like a charm. I'm going to look into upgrading to the 80 or 120 soon...
I have no experience with the Creative Zens but I hear those are good too. Nevertheless, I vote for Zune! gogogogo!
I used to have a first-gen Zune, I loved the fuck out of it. Go buy one, do it now!
@Scrixx: They no longer make the Creative Vision M.
I have a Zune80 now and I'm pleased with it but I have two complaints: Asian characters are not supported by the zune so if you have japanese music all you'll see is squares instead of titles. The other thing is a lack of supported format for both audio and video. But overall it's really a nice player.
I fourth the Creative Zen sentiment.
Zunes and iPods have similar setbacks, you can only play limited video codecs on both players, but they aren't compatible with each other. If you have a Mac, you won't be able to use your zune with it, that's why I didn't end up getting one. Also, if you plan to use your ps3 with the zune, that won't work either, but an iPod will, another reason why I didn't get a Zune. I think the Zunes are really sweet, but I'd be too limited when using it, so I decided otherwise.
Well I don't have a PS3 so that's not a problem.
The 360 connectivity was one of the main selling points
It sounds like you are pretty sold on the idea, so I would go for it. I have an 80gig Zune and I love it, have not regretted purchasing it. The only problem I have is that my laptop is kinda buggy with the software and doesn't let me do a few things, but its not the software's fault, its my computer.
The only real thing holding me back is if it'll work wiht my comptuer since I keep readin Vista only in one place and XP SP2 else where (I have XP SP3)
Cons: Feeds the microsoft monopoly. Don't do it, man. It's not worth the price! Same for buying an ipod.
Zune has no problem connecting to anything Windows based, really. I had one when my comp had Vista and it ran fine. I'm running Xp SP3 and it's also running fine. No worries.
Also, I still have a 1st Gen Shitbrown Zune and I love it to pieces.
usually Service pack requirements are backwards like 90 of the time, if it works with sp2 it will work with future service packs.
Also, the music library Ihave doesnt surpass 3Gb so I have to recommend the sansa clip 4Gb, its dirt cheap with great music quality and doubles as storage device. Better yet no stupid software required you can either drag & drop or use winamp without the need for plugin download, I <3 it ^_^.
price checked - $60 for a 4 gb new sansa clip at amazon, awesome.
I am ass backwards and hook my zune up to my mac via vmware and windows XP. its a hassle but I like the zune so sue me.
I have a 8gb 2gen, but definitely need to upgrade soon. I will probably wait for 3gen zunes.
NO!!!! don't do it
you"ll get screwed in the end
the return rate for zunes when I was working for wally world was no joke 80%
