Based on the story segments I say Mega Man 9 is the start of the events that led tot he development of X.

Honestly I've seen more brutal stages Mega man and Bass is far worse than 9 is. The Commentary is Hilarous

This is going to sound weird, Alex, but the first time you play a Mega Man game, it's not so much about "fun" as it is about feeling fulfilled by overcoming the challenge by learning and adapting.

After that, then it becomes "fun" to run through it like you have a masters degree in robonomics.

I seem to remember most of the 8 bit ones taking weeks at a time, with large breaks of weeks at a time to finish. And that was on grade school hours, where I could spend whole afternoons and weekends just gaming!

Still had fun though. 9 happens to be very demanding, but not wholly unfair.
