Besides where else can I talk about how great Blazblue is?

You'll have to bear with me I forgot my review format



So Arc sys launched a new IP FINALLY and unlike Battle Fantasia, Hokoto no ken and Basara X and Guilty Gear Accent Core, Blazblue is actually GOOD REALLY GOOD no GREAT NO......AMAZING NO NO NO PERFECT.
YES it's PERFECT. as in it's the perfect fighter

Now I could at this point say review over and then have 30 comments of FAIL below this. Which will then prompt me to post a video of a fat asian dude showing off his Neo Geo collection before mooning the camera. But I won't

Cast- If there IS a problem I have with the game though it's the cast. Taokaka is one of the characters you feel guilty beating the crap out of but still annoys you anyway. "Give me Food Good guy" "Oh hey it's boooooooooobie lady" and responses like "My breasts aren't steam buns" Jin is utterly insane and Ragna is laidback and they're brothers, and it kinda reminds me of Knives and Vash in a way. Then again there's alot about the game that story wise reminds me of Trigun. Besides Taokaka I detest Carl and Rachel.....GOD that Rachel what alittle bitch she is. While Haku-men is a mash up of of two characters I created and Nu is well....a weeaboo wetdream...then again this whole game is. "Get lost weeaboo" is something I say quite often after defeating somebody using the Japanese Voices online. Bang is a stereotype. Tiger is pretty cool if difficult to get the hang of. Ragna is AWESOME Sol users like me will be at home, Jin and Noel are great if you wanna be an asshole on line. Arkune I have yet to use but he's that THING from spirted away and Litchi is the new Mai. With a cast this small hating on more than one character takes away from the possibilities you have as a player.



Gameplay- like Butter. SNK's fighters on XBLA have been really clunkly (among other problems but that's another review/blog) Were as I have issues getting the simplest moves off on my 360 pad in KOF 98 and to a lesser degree Garou I have little problem pulling moves off in Blazblue even cooler is they have an EO mode for the noobs. Buttons are set up as ABC for weak, Medium and strong attacks and like many dojin games D is for some sort of special move. In some ways the game system is like a more complicated Melty Blood with a hint of Arcana Heart. But as daunting as the game sounds It's easy to pick up and play so long as the person with you knows how to play. This game is probably even more accessable than the noob friendly Marvel VS Capcom 2. Even when it has like 60 gauges on screen. even then it's not too daunting.
It plays great but if you go in expecting Guilty Gear with a new cast you'll be disapointed.



Graphics/Sound- The star of the show. I don't have to say this game is gorgous. I don't have to say that save for a few forgettable songs the soundtrack is awesome (with the Boss themes and Ragna's theme being my favorite) It's like playing a Gonzo Anime (Gonzo did the opening weeaboo wet dream movie as well) The Character sprites are all hand drawn and animate better than their Guilty Gear cousins But they don't look like that much more of an upgrade. If there was one thing about the game i'd improve it's the character animation but it's not a big deal.



Online- Blazblue shows Street Fighter IV how it's done. Some might be annoyed by the no penalty match drop out but given the cheap asshole's you'll be playing it's needed. Player match is quarter match style and there are a huge amount of slots to go on for hours. Ranked is wonderful like Soul Calibur IV's online you can pick ranked matches based on skill level. I haven't myself figured out how to host a ranked match (I know LAME) but none the less the profiles that ranked match have help you pick a character that best opposes the main characters you opponent has (for example if you were to face me you'd know I play as Jin and Ragna and your best bet is to be Noel and Spam her D auto combos on me) replay save is great to show your friends your awesome skillz (videos of me murdering Taokaka users with Hakumen coming soon)



Overall- First off Gonzo only did the intro story mode is just a bunch of text the story is good and reminds me of Trigun in some ways. That's one Gripe. Another is score attack isn't that exciting. If Guilty Gear in it's stale incarnations did one thing right it was survival mode Hopefully that might be DLC in the future. Also it's a personal Gripe but I hate a few of the characters so that leaves me with 10 characters to mess around with. At least the story leaves ALOT of room for a sequel open. Only 1 or 2 (I forget) of the "Six heroes" are in the game no doubt the other 5 will show up in Blazblue 2.

With the taste of greatness I WANT to hear an annoucement of Blazblue 2 very soon.

other than those gripes the Gameplay is pretty much perfect. Nobody is so broken that it's game breaking though Jin and Noel players WILL annoy you. Arc System works has the master peice this is their 3rd Strike this is their Garou it's a must buy.
