Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
The other key word is QUALITY, which is the real answer to your 3D Sonic rhetoric.
"Older games are more plolished than games we have now." Retrogoggles, perhaps? I remember plenty of shitty games from back in the day that could have benefitted from more
And Dead Rising is not a polished game. It's a game that's great enough that people overlook its flaws. The sequel (someday) will hopefully be polished and flawless.
Portal, Braid, Geo Wars 2 are recent examples of this.
I think in the old days it was easier to come up with an economical design because you didn't have the freedom lent by all this computer power. The decision to cut a feature becomes much easier when it's difficult to implement properly without causing problems. But in a lot of ways it's possible to be more creative when you are limited - because you have to think of good ways around the problem. Nowadays the limitations are more likely to be self-imposed than imposed by technology.
I read an interview with one of my favourite drummers who just uses a 3 piece kit, and he says exactly the same thought of thing - he wouldn't know what to do with more drums, it'd be a confusing mess - whearas sticking to 3 enables him to be much more creative in how he uses them, to get a range of sounds from them. Games that work on this principle are usually my favourites.
Also Treyarch sucks.
