I'm a HUGE wrestling fan. HUGE I tells ya. I own a few championship belts. I have a good selection of DVDs nothing expansive but all my favorite wrestlers are accounted for quite well. I subscribe to WWE 24/7.
Fire Pro is the ONLY wrestling game I'll play BUT there are other wrestling games you may not remember.
Old WWF games well they kinda sucked.

Then the WWF tried to get all Mortal Kombat with the Wrestlemania Arcade game
the only good thing about that game was I didn't have to listen to Jim Ross talk about what a Slobber knocker it was.

Hardcore wrestling and Video games seem like a great fit. Fire Pro does it to perfection. However FMW a legendary Japanese Promotion didn't do it so well.
Few people know that the legendary FMW had a video games AWESOME you're thinking we can play as the high flying Hayabusa.....sadly no.......not even close it was a really really horrible SF clone.
It looks cool though music is ok........No...IT SUCKS. I'm sorry but unless MR Pogo is carving somebody up or something or someone is on Fire. Or I'm elbow smashing somebody in the head as Masato Tanaka........it sucks.

Acclaim (ACKLAME) never made good wrestling games and this.....was one steaming pile of poo. At least the music in this video is good.
You know what's really sad though....The ECW Video games are still better than what the WWE is trying to pass off as ECW these days.

Personally, I thought the original Smackdown game was pretty passable. I haven't played any WWF games since Smackdown 2 but I really also don't care.
I also loved the SNES Wrestlemania. Just cause it was passable for a wrassler and well..that shit was funny. (I loved at the CPU always coming outside the ring, I pick up a chair, and then they roll their ass back in the ring.)
Although the early PS1 WWF games were horrible (what was it....Raw is war and uh...Attitude?) they added so much fun just how silly they all look and the hardcore matches. I miss laughing at stupid things like that.
I thought every wrestling game pretty horrible until Wrestlemania 2000 and No Mercy which I still play occasionally. Smackdown 2 was alright too but the loading screens were too long. The last wrestling game I really liked was Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth on PS2, everything else lately has been meh. Hope the TNA game is good though.
Anything made by AKI (WCW vs. nWo World Tour, WCW/nWo Revenge, WWF WM2K, WWF No Mercy, Def Jam Vendetta, Def Jam Fight for New York) and Spike (Fire Pro, King of Coliseum) is awesomeness. I really do not like the Smackdown games at all. The original ones were okay for mindless fun, but they played like shit. Nowadays the Smackdown series is just plain shit. Let's just hope TNA iMPACT turns out well, so far it's not looking too bad. It reminds me a lot of Def Jam Fight for New York, gameplay wise, which isn't bad at all.
i was expecting to see some NES tag team wrestling, or the old MUSCLE games. god those were awful. other than firepro and giant gram, wrestling games have sucked since the n64, i'm not down with yukes games.

I know your subject is BAD wrestling games, but have you by chance played the Giant Gram games on Dreamcast? They are still awesome-sauce.
Did you know AJPW actually got somebody to portray Wolf?
Shut Your Mouth and Here Comes the Pain are both better than ANY of the Smackdown vs. Raw titles.
