My Tattoo Sleeve Begins
mgmgarcia01 | 6:34 PM on 09.26.2008 25 comments

It was a long time coming but work has finally begun...

Of the five pieces chosen for my entire arm tattoo dedication to Video Games, i decided to begin with the classic Street Fighter II.

All five main tattoos to make arm the whole arm have been chosen, and the reason i decided to start with this one is, its the easiest to show off! Also, its makes the upper arm tattoos easier to place if the bottom is complete. This one is based off an Udon Crew image i found on DeviantArt.com, and i knew straight away, this is what i wanted. Would have been nice to have Ken in there too, but watevs.

The thought process behind this work is that i wanted to choose games that were epic when i was growing up. (i'm 8-Bit BTW). The kinds of games that when some one says,"Hey, watcha doing?" and you reply with "Playing (in this case SF2)" the only obvious response is: "Of course."

So being 27 now, and my video game career spanning back to the Nes days, when i was roughly 6-ish, there are A LOT of games that fall into the "sucked my life away" category.

Hmmmm, I'm not going to tell you guys the other 4 characters i'm getting, in case some slight changes occur. For example, on the other side of my forearm from this tattoo i was going to get Sakura, but now I've changed that to something WAY WAY more epic

SO next along will be the filling in, which will probably take longer than this. This outline only took 2 hours. Im expecting 3, but more like 4 next.

I'd like to know what you guys think, and even thought I've already decided on the whole arm, what characters do you think would make a good tattoo?

And yes, in case your wondering: Im that hardcore

that hand is definitely going to be serving you well.

just kidding. of all videogame tats ive seen these are the largest.

and, ok, least sucky.

I just hope you have a gf who loves sf
mgmgarcia01's Destructoid Blog
The gf objected to the sakura idea, but this gets approval. I'm very excited about the next one...

Oh, i forget to mention it will be all B&W!

That artist has some mad talent with the line work, very fucking impressive! I just hope you're content with having that on your entire arm for the rest of your life. I got a shark tattoo on my shoulder and at times I regret it. God damn drinking at age 20.
MrSadistic's Destructoid Blog
Don't get b&w tattoos. For the love of God, please don't. Well, unless the artist sucks at coloring, but whatever.

Yeah he is amazing! I'm very glad i went with him in the end. I have other tattoos, so I'm very prepared for the permanent thing!

Looks awesome.

Oh and yeah it might be hardcore, but hopefully you won't regret it when you're older. I'm going with RE/SH sleeves. With that I'm using the monsters/creatures/etc from those two universes. Mainly, just in case for some reason I actually regret the decision when I'm 60, I won't have a giant Jill Valentine on my arm to haunt me.

That's why I sometimes laugh at people who have Mario, Mega Man, or any other Nintendo related tattoos.

The plus side with B&W tats is that if you want it covered up, you could always turn it into a sweet panther.

Looks great man! I was thinking of getting a rather large tattoo of the gladiator colossus from Shadow of the Colossus.

I can't understand tats. I don't put people down for having them, but I could never ever think of something that I think is cool enough to draw onto myself.

You have boobs on your arm. Just fyi :)

Looks awesome. I have my sleeve and my entire back done, as well. You said, 'start,' with SF, though? Isn't that pretty much... 'all' SF. ;) Unless the shoulder/bicep/underarm is going to incorporate something else.
mgmgarcia01's Destructoid Blog
@ MrSadistic: RE was very close to being included on this arm, possibly even just the umbrella logo on my elbow, but space didn't permit. But that sounds incredible! RE/SH monster mash up would always be a cool tattoo
mgmgarcia01's Destructoid Blog
@ Vismortua: yes, the other 4 tattoos will be from different games

The more I look at the work done on Chun-Li the more envious I am. Fucking nice, man!

Also, get a fucking avatar!

That's awesome and inspiring. I'm really thinking about something similar.

Most video game related tats are kinda face-palm worthy, but this one looks very well done. The line work is nice!

Ya'll welcome..

Leave them just outlines. They look slick right now. Doing that will also save you over 9,000.00 dollars I hear.

Props to the artist, that's some clean ink.
Krahsh's Destructoid Blog
line work looks clean, put some pics up after the scabbing is over with. also, no shading? pussy! i keed, i keed.
It's good to see decent game related ink. There's been too many shitty pieces out there.

@sadistic what's wrong with Nintendo related ink, eh? :P
mgmgarcia01's Destructoid Blog
Shading is coming, i only had two hours so we had to call it once the outline was done.

Your ink is awesome btw Krahsh

I'm generally not thrilled by video game tattoos, but that is really great-looking.

And, like mrsadistic, I implore you to get that colored. There are definitely situations where b/w is the better way to go, but I think this piece deserves some color to make it pop.

Hey guys, never been to this site before, was just searching Street Fighter 2 tattoos on google.

Just thought i'd say firstly, the tat is looking awesome, looks like you've got yourself a talented artist working for ya!

And secondly i'd just like to say please have a look at my SF2 tat and let me know your thoughts: http://uk.gear.ign.com/dor/articles/878520/ign-body-art-episode-5/images/ign-body-art-episode-5-20080602050919073.html

Its not quite finished yet but i'd like your opinions please.

Cheers
