Thanks for the suggestions, I'll make sure the man upstairs sees this.
Oh, and a new commenting system is coming VERY soon :)

Some of those requirements seem... I dunno, arbitrary? As someone who has only started blogging here recently, things like expanding on the 'fap' system so you can see all of the people who vote, and not be able to accidentally vote yourself (and changing the name of it because holy christ); and the ability to search via tags being tied to destructoid.com, and not the other script sources (Having NoScript on is necessary for this site, but finding which embedded scripts turn on the useful functions is Russian roulette.
So far I've noticed maybe one user who has particularly spammy blogs; but he's a regular and gets away with it. Just having a 'report this blog/comment' would probably have the same effect, rather than having a team of moderators trawl every blog.
Though if they did that, my blog posts would probably get more views...

@GrooveMan
You obviously haven't seen some of the spam blogs that show up here on occasion. Within the span of an hour, the entire blog roll can fill with posts advertising travel to Peru and the like -- it's pretty impressive, really :)

I guess not. If it really is a pressing concern, then I retract that sentiment - though I would definitely like to see the things I pointed out improved. It would make the blog system just that much smoother.
Not 100% sure how I feel about #1. I guess it's okay.
#2 and #3 are goodness. Don't care about the profanity filter, though.
#4 is frontpage, so... meh. The customizability to get a list of posts is already good enough for me.

Ideally, I find the "improvements" to be all right, but from a practicality standpoint and what Destructoid has always been about doing things different and giving more freedom, makes no sense at all. =)
Very cool stuff. By the way, have you seen the new community sections and blogging system for Flixist? I'm testing some ideas there that I hope to bring to Destructoid after some more testing.
I've been holding back from talking about it much till I got the kinks out (as opposed to last year where I was so excited that I released it prematurely) but I will do that soon!
The features I think you'll like are being able to filter or moderate against faps on your own, being able to blog all day and decide which posts you want to share on the community section, and some other stuff.
As for the customizable stuff its an interesting puzzle. The primary benefit of serving "one experience" is that it is simpler to cache and scale in high traffic demand. When you have a lot of users requesting a lot of unique complex queries it requires a much more robust database infrastructure. We definitely will offer this in the future though, as its a feature I'd like for myself as well.
As for moderation, what Funktastic said is basically what I feel. I want to find ways to give the community more power and more features, not moderate or tuck them away. That's another tricky thing to juggle as it means spammers and trolls can quickly ruin things for everyone, but giving the community a means to self-moderate while balancing power so that our largest clique doesn't dominate what's "good" is something to strive for.
Ok, enough yapping from me. I'm going back in the kitchen to fix you guys something cooler :)

The stuff on Flixist looks cool. I'm liking a lot of the features there.
And hey, this was just some random thoughts I had. I remembered that you'd asked for improvement ideas about a month back, so I tossed some things out there. What you choose to do with it is entirely you, since Destructoid's your baby.
