I finished Metroid Prime 3 Corruption Tuesday night after a day and a half of nonstop playing and I can tell you it's worth every penny you will pay for this game. I've waited three years for this game and most recently in the last couple weeks started fearing that something would happen and that the controls wouldn't work, it would lose the unique adventuring game play that makes it a Metroid game, but sure enough Retro Studios came through for us one last time and pulled it all together flawlessly. Retro once again technically makes Nintendo's once mute system sing like a choir of angels. They push everything the Wii has to offer and hides what it can't do behind stellar art design. Most importantly though the controls were spot on. Retro took what everyone wanted and hoped for in the controls department and then gave us everything we hadn't even thought of yet and pulled it off without a hitch. Everything from whipping out your grapple beam and ripping body shields away from space pirates to disengaging a lock without it ever feeling like a gimmick. The story also drew the series to an excellent close and I will mourn the fact that we have now seen the last of the Prime series but rejoice at the prospect of the again hinted at Metroid Dread telling the aftermath of Fusion in the near future on the DS from a 2d side scrolling perspective or dare I even hope that Nintendo gets truly ballsy and does a console sidescroller with Prime quality 3d visuals from the side scroll perspective much like Ubisoft did with the Xbox Live Arcade release of the Prince of Persia remake. But back to Metroid Prime 3 Corruption. Once again an excellent tale of civilizations past is woven beautifully through lores forever etched in stone and data pods revealing tidbits of Samus' past, the history of her adopted race, and of those they have influenced and touched. Everything from finally stepping inside the cockpit and being able to play with everything her ship has to offer to seeing Retro Studios include even the smallest detail including phazon induced facial disfigurement and radiation sickness causing vomiting all creates the most engrossing game I have ever had the privilege of experiencing.
