Today I want to know; what is your favorite game soundtrack. Not song i'll keep that one for later. Which soundtrack would you buy. And why?
Remember this is not a song so the portal song is out of the question.
Which soundtrack has moved you, made you feel the moment, made you scared? TELL ME.

"Still Alive" is a song on the Portal/Orange Box soundtrack so it IS in the question.

Half-Life 2 had phenomenal music!

Chrono Trigger, hands down.

Jet Set Radio Future
Grim Fandango

I've got the Vice City and San Andreas boxed sets, and if there was an OST to Bioshock with all the songs that you hear in the game, I'd snap that up.

Final Fantasy VI, and Final Fantasy VII (the only redeeming part of the game).

This was a triumph!

FFVII by a long way. Particularly if performed by either the black mages, or a full orchestra.

Also the Halo soundtracks.

8 comments and only 2 about Final Fantasy 7? I'm disappointed in you internet.

...

My old roommate had the Zelda soundtrack, which had songs from I think all the games up to Wind Waker. Epic shit.

@DanGale
Yeah, the Galaxy music is definitely amazing. ^_^

I can never settle on a favorite, I love orchestral soundtracks from Final Fantasy, Zelda, Mario. I also find myself collecting tracks from fighting game soundtracks, pretty much everything from Guilty Gear(except for the vocal tracks, horrible horrible) and recently Soul Calibur 3.

Chrono/ Earthbound seem to be a tie. Both are very good in different ways. Most SNES RPGs have excelent soundtracks actually.

I've got a few entries;
the original WipEOut on PSX. I think that was when I started tolerating techno.
Rune. because it makes you want to dress like flavor flav, grow ten feet tall and smash somebody's face in with the hilt or your phallus ..er..sword. TechnoViking would be proud.

And, I know this is flame bait, but World of Warcraft. It has some pretty decent orchestral scores. <lisp> they're splendid background music for any battles your 8th lvl barbarian might encounter! </lisp>

Portal for the eerie ambience and screwy ending song.

DEFCON because it has the sfx of crying over the sound of bunker noises and depressing strings etc.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time because you can't get enough of Gerudo fortress or the shop theme.

I know that its not exactly a classic game, or one with an outstanding reputation (as of yet), but for those of you that have played Lost Odyssey, I would actually argue that some of the orchestrated music on that is some of the most moving I've heard on a game to date.

Even if the odd song does sound like a copy of FF music (though its the same guy so its to be expected).

I've not got that game yet, due to lack of funds, but if Nobuo Uematsu's work on that is anything like Blue Dragon, then I bet it is a classic soundtrack! He does like to keep a certain sound to all of them, but it's that good who cares!

He's on topform on the main theme tune, and although some of the music at times feels a bit unconventional, it works surprisingly well. Its a fantastic mix of orchestrated music, and more modern forms of contemporary noise.

If you're a fan of his stuff you won't be disappointed. I think he just might be one of the greatest composers of all time - just because he works in the games industry doesn't mean that the quality of his work should be degraded.

Just listened to it and it is amazing! It's all the cool weird forms of noise he uses that really do it for me. Think I might have to get the soundtrack of play-asia when I get some money in again

Both the Jet Set Radio soundtracks were godly, as was Sonic Rush's and Ollie King's (two other soundtracks by Hideki Naganuma).

I bought the FF7 Piano Collection at my local game store a long while back because I loved the music in that damn game so much. Great stuff. Cosmo Canyon FTW.

The Neverhood's soundtrack is also crazy awesome.

Also, like 500 others that I can't remember right now. :D
