Um for the most part you can save any time you want to in Mass Effect as long as you aren't in combat...
yeah i know, it just seems that I magically feel like I should save like right as I enter into combat, like I said its more of a criticism of myself

I don't know. I don't think the autosaving in Oblivion is that much better. You can go a long way before you actually get to a door that causes you to autosave.
If it's not "Really a problem" why did you post about it?
the only thing that makes this post kind of retarded is the fact that you CAN save after you enter or exit any door in this game. as long as youre not in combat like that other dude said.
whats worse, all you do in this game is enter and exit doors.
To correct the situation simply bypass Mass Effect and play Oblivion only.
Oblivion had the best save system ever. Every game should have that combination of Autosave, Quicksave, and manual save.
