Dtoid: Help me start off my Retro-Rollercoaster of Fun
madninja | 9:23 PM on 09.03.2009 13 comments

(I use this for relevancy reasons)

So this has been a while hasn't it, Dtoid? Well late with all my work done I get crazy ideas, ideas that could work so I decide to ask your guys to be my starting point. Let me explain my friends.

I am a youngster who when I listen to people on Dtoid or other places talk about retro games I get lost. So to rectify this problem I want to start something I would like to call "Retro-Rollercoaster" (I will do this because now I have free time) which will be me writing a blog by-weekly (bi- or by- don't really know) on a retro game I have never played and I will conical my journey in the blog.

This is where I need/want your help. Either recommend game and I will either take it into account or I will just start at the beginning with Mario. (Before N64 is all fair game) Try to keep the games available on the Virtual Console or any of the other download services.

Sorry this is kind of short but the other ones will have more meat in them.

New WoW race? Maybe. New Wolf WoW race? Sign me up!
madninja | 2:19 AM on 07.18.2009 13 comments

So someone who is really into World of Warcraft was looking through the magic of the internet and found the new Halloween masks. Normally I wouldn't care and neither would my friends who all went crazy when they discovered the bottom two masks. Apparently there is this awesome race in the WoW universe that is basically a wolf on two legs, awesome.

This can be taken as a rumor but this seems really likely to be true because of Blizzcon coming up (I will be there) and of what Blizzard has said previously which you can click on the story I saw here which goes into further detail.

I don't play WoW but I have been tempted to play because of the amount of people I know that play. And now that there maybe an awesome f#cking werewolf race that I can play in the game, I am sold. What do you people think, will you now prepare yourself to open up your wallets and pay or still say screw it I will wait for Star Wars TOK?

Madninja away................

So you know how awesome this thing is.

Late Night Ninja thought: A Response to Jim's question with another question
madninja | 10:20 PM on 07.14.2009 4 comments

Today while looking through Dtoid today I noticed Jim’s feature titled “Are games bloggers less trustworthy than 'real' journalists?” and this got me thinking. While I was trying to type a comment for about ten minutes to articulate a response to a question I have, I noticed that I couldn’t in a comment because it is more of a question to the readers than to the writer. So here is my question, why are sites like Kotaku and Dtoid still considered blogs?

If you look at both sites, and sites of similar nature, you notice it is very different than a wordpress or tumblr blog because those sites don’t have staff of editors or features writers. There are about 40,000 registered Dtoiders not mentioning people who just read the site and does a blog by Bob and his friends have that same amount of users, probably not. Dtoid does use a blogging system for posting stories but I see that now more of a style choice than just any normal blog.

A site like Dtoid basically does the same thing as a site like Gamespot but on a smaller scale. The one problem though that I am facing though is what do we call sites like Dtoid because this site does coverage same as “real” journalist sites do but is independent. So is there a middle ground everyone can agree upon or am I being an idiot and no one cares as long as it is good?

A clearer version of the Zelda concept art, Also Kingdom Hearts 300something/2 days impressions
madninja | 9:25 PM on 06.05.2009 6 comments

I was just looking through my regular sites earlier and noticed the above at Bitmob. And damn it looks mighty sexy, I don't know how I feel about the still adult Link yet because I liked Twilight Princess. Check out the balls out version here.

Now to the real point of posting this blog, through the power of SCIENCE! I got a hold of a copy of the new Kingdom Hearts game on the DS. I have no knowledge of how to read Japanese (I still don't know what convinced me to buy it) so basically it is a Dynasty Warriors game with the furious pushing of the A button. You know you play as the emo version of Sora, Roxas, when he was part of Organization 13 and to me who knows nothing of Japanese it seems like stuff is happening.

The game is mission based, you have one objective which range from kill all enemies to follow behind a character and not be seen (just hit this mission and the mission is sooooooooooooooooo stupid). I am surprised that this game is fully 3 to the D which Square has done before but damn this game looks good for a handheld with the environments almost directly from KH2 (looks worse but it is a DS) and the combat even though it one button looks good.

There is one HUGE problem with this game and the problem is with the multiplayer. WHY DO I HARM MY PARTNER IN CO-OP BUT NOT IN THE ACTUAL GAME?!!!!!!!! Seriously my friend and I start playing the mission mode and cool at first to pick from any member on the Organization but that joy jumps out of the window when every other hit harms my partner. So we have to split the enemies in half but when there is a hall way or they focus on one character it is f@cking stupid because one guy goes in and if any one thinks of going in they are screwed.

The game is good so far after 4 hours but holy crap they have to fix that problem.

Ass-assin's Creed 2, reaction rant to Gameinformer
madninja | 3:56 PM on 04.13.2009 13 comments

Let me start with some back story, (and no stops) I thought the first Assassin’s Creed was horrible, horrible. I got through most of the game until I just got angry at the game and stopped, so I gave the game a fair shake.

Now that we are done with that, I knew, just like everyone else knew, that there was going to be a sequel to this game. The game sold a boatload of copies and it would be stupid not to make another game, so I became optimistic because there were some reviewers out there in the world who shared my thoughts (Destructoid and the late EGM).

So my copy of Gameinformer arrived in the mail today and I will say the setting and the look of the game got me excited but that is what I thought of the last game and it was horrible, but I started to read. There is one thing that the first Assassin’s Creed should have had, the stupid structure of go to bureau crap is now gone and everything else stinks of the same thing wrong with the last game.

The magazine says that there are 16 unique mission types, I will believe them on that there are 16 types of missions but not all of them will probably be unique. In the magazine (this could be a problem with Gameinformer’s lack of writing skills but this is a reactionary post to the magazine article, I will still buy this game) they explain some of the missions that they saw. I won’t quote in fear of something happening but after they say there are 16 unique missions they explain two missions which come down to following people in a crowd. The only difference is that one is a male running and the other is a female walking.

The game looks effing amazing, there are side by side photos in the magazine of real and game and only one of the photos looks gamey. Speaking of gamey, the thing I hope for when Assassin’s Creed 2 comes out is that it is not as gamey as the original. But this article is not filling me with hope, which is never a good thing.

How Bioshock 2 was on the edge and where it landed.
madninja | 11:03 PM on 04.10.2009 16 comments

I am sure most people have seen the footage of Bioshock 2 if they are reading this but if you haven’t go check to CTZ’s post about the footage.

I am a huge fan of Bioshock, so much of a fan that I even love the ending of Bioshock, and the game is in my top ten for greatest games ever. So, like most people, when I heard that there was going to be a sequel(?) to one of my favorite games of all time I got a little afraid.

The team was one knife edge, one side sucking and the other being awesome, since the announcement of Bioshock 2 and news like the Big Sister didn’t help the cause but when I saw that trailer with game footage my attitude change completely. The game is still not getting an easy pass form me, but now I am intrigued at the notion of another cool shooter. That isn’t a knock against the game, the original had awesome combat but from what was shown, in a very very very small amount of footage, this game seems more combat heavy. (this is also what I thought of Bioshock until my mind exploded from the awesome story)

Anyway, my tip for the new team is: go all the way with this game, just because some angry nerd on the internet post several comments about how the sequel isn’t faithful just ignore them like we all should. Look at Resident Evil 5, the game kept the same look and feel while adding new stuff for the player to experience (that seems like a set up for co-op in Bioshock 2, oh crap). So far though the game is going to that next step with the Big Sisters being able to go really fast and your drill being able to mess some guys up, which makes me just jump with joy.

I am not hoping for a Terminator to T2 jump but it won’t be a Jaws to Jaws 2 fall (sorry to those people who liked that film). The developers could still mess with the pie they already have though, but if they take that piece of advice from me (a random person on the internet who went to a professional convention with Awesome Cougars on my badge) maybe they won’t screw up with the pie.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm pie
