Chris and Sheva play pass the zombie in RE:5.
lv99ron | 9:08 PM on 12.11.2008 5 comments

Well now they have taken the co-op aspect of RE: % a step further. Not only do you use team tactics to get past certain obstacles, but they can also use team attacks to kill zombies. Basically a stunned zombie can be juggled between the two characters. After the first volley the server finishes off the zombie in a rather flashy over the top way. Either with a Rey Mysterio style hurricurana or with a super punch. But don't take my word for it. Check it out here.

Prototype...the second game to let you elbow drop a tank.
lv99ron | 1:25 PM on 12.11.2008 7 comments

Kill a soldier and absorb his body mass and knowledge. Then find a tank, hop inside and butcher everyone still hiding inside the metal coffin. Pretty simple right? Well it is for Alex Mercer the anti-hero for Prototype. A lot of you have already heard of this game and are just waiting to figure out if it will get fucked over like all of Vivendi's other games. Well i will start with you all first. The game is still coming out. Activision wasn't that stupid. The game was damn near completion. It was only delayed to tweak some things and to put co-op back in. Ironically after the game was delayed previously to remove co-op. But yes the game is still coming out next year, so just wait to get a solid release date.

Now for everyone who has no idea what Prototype is I'll sum it up in 9 words. The bastard son of Crackdown and Hulk Ultimate Destruction. This is a sandbox game similar to Crackdown in the fact that you can leap from rooftop to rooftop, you can throw cars at people, and you can toss a man into the air and shoot at his body as he is coming down. That's were Crackdown ends and Prototype bursts through. You are a one man army caught in the middle of a war between the army and some sort of mutation. You can handle it because you have the power to kill and absorb people in order to gain their knowledge and experience, but you also add them to your body mass and disguise yourself as them. The more you kill the stronger you get because all that extra mass can be used to produce organic body armor on the fly, or used to turn your arms into deadly weapons. Think the T-1000 from terminator, on CRACK. Also this ability to absorb people is how you get the story. As you devour key individuals they begin to fill in the blank space that is your memory as you uncover your past and figure out the truth behind your powers and the mutation destroying New York.

Now that's enough of me talking. Watch and love.

....YEAH....JUST GO
lv99ron | 3:23 AM on 12.07.2008 8 comments

see Punisher Warzone. This movie felt like the stupidly fun version of Batman: The Dark Knight. Now before anyone has a freaking stroke. I'm not saying it was as good as Batman or even close, in the story, plot, or dialogue department. But you will be on the edge of your seat waiting for what comes next. The action, the violence is the main draw here. I mean what more could you expect from a movie based on a "superhero" that just runs around killing everyone that so much as farts in his general direction?

Now if you still can't tell, I really enjoyed the movie. Don't listen to the reviews or anyone for that matter that says it is a bad movie unless it sounds like this. The movie wasn't that great, BUT, when he starts killing you forget you are watching a bad movie. To me, everything worked well here. I liked the cast, they all played their parts well. But really, this wasn't a movie created to win any Oscars, or to mark a new chapter in film making history. The story was straight forward, but entertaining. But it was really only there to place a name with the bodies, and to give an explanation as to why they are dying. Ray Stevenson does a good jo or portraying the trouble, psychopathic Frank Castle on his one man war against crime. Dominic West plays the main antagonist Jigsaw. You also have Doug Hutchison as Jigsaw insane brother, Newman a.k.a Wayne Knight, and Dexter's Julie Benz. This lady stays busy. She is in everything nowadays.

Anyway, no one is really going to watch this movie for the stars, and fewer are going to watch it for the story. The real reason people will be going to see this is for the over the top violence, which Lionsgate films is known for. To get a better understanding of how violent this movie is, go play Fallout 3, then level up so you can get the Bloody Mess perk. Shoot someone in the face at point blank range with a shotgun, and you will understand what I mean. Most of the deaths are just unexpected and in your face. Me and my friend have this thing we do, where we give names to particular death animation in games, or on film. I don't want to ruin anything for anyone by describing them, so I will remain quiet. But by far the best one in the movie is The Last Parkour a.k.a The Unexpected.

Overall Punisher: Warzone is a fun movie, and is worth watching. Guys should go in groups to fully enjoy this because you will be pumped after watching it, plus it will be fun going over your favorite kills in the movie. On a side note, don't take your girlfriend, unless you want to watch Sister Hood of the Traveling Pants 3 later on down the road, because most"normal" girls are not going to like this movie. But for it's action, black comedy, and over the top violence I give it 4 bullet holes out of 5.

What happened to Harker?
lv99ron | 4:05 PM on 12.05.2008 7 comments

Chances are most of you are asking WTF is Harker? Well let me start off by giving you the basic run down of the game. You play as Johnathan Harker. A man who is on a mission to take revenge against Dracula for the murder of his beloved Mina. He is on a mission to take out the dark lord, and as many blood suckers as he can get his hands on over the course of his adventure. Aside from the usual vampire hunting weapons, stakes, crosses, holy water, and sun light, Harker is able to use the environment to kill his foes, or weaken then so he can get in the killing blow. Also Harker can utilize his little arm brace to block attacks, mainly use it to protect his neck when the vamps get a little too close for comfort, but also as an offensive tool to reflect sun light towards his enemies.

The idea of taking on vampires in hand to hand combat is a little far fetched, but it could have been awesome if done correctly. The story would have been top notch seeing as it is based off of Bram Stroker's work. Sadly it seems the game has been put on the shelf, and it will probably remain there. You see the company that was working on it, The Collective, stopped to work on another title. Along with the new title they also took on a new name. They now go by the name Double Helix, and the game they stopped everything to work on was Silent Hill 5: Homecoming.

I understand Silent Hill 5 was a big opportunity for them, and they would have been fools to pass it up. But I wonder if they plan on returning to their original title, or just let it fade away completely. Hopefully they do return to it, because we really need more vampire games on the home consoles, because Vampire Rain sucked (PUN) and most of the Castlevania games on the consoles should be staked and dragged out into the sun, John Carpenter's Vampires style. Check out the video to see what could have been.

Survival 101
lv99ron | 6:02 PM on 11.25.2008 13 comments

By now everyone knows about Left 4 Dead, but still not many people are playing it. When you do decide to step into the world of zombie eradication here are some tips to help you survive the zombie apocalypse, and make it to see your next sun rise. These tips can help you out with the single player campaign and the online campaign.

1 - Play with the volume cut up loud enough to hear. Everything has an audio cue that signals when a horde is approaching or when one of the special zombies is in the area. By hearing them you will stand a better chance of being able to handle it with little to no damage as apposed to being running head long into danger.

2 - When you hear crying CALM THE HELL DOWN. I don't know how many times I've seen people who are all over the place shooting zombies only to run right into a Witch. They are fast and very dangerous because they are much stronger than Tanks. it's a trade off for the fact that they don't bother you as long as you don't bother them. When you here crying take these steps to avoid getting your face ripped off.
A-Cut off your flashlight. it has the same effect on her as sunlight has on a gamer after being up for 22 hours.
B-Move slowly. Running around is the fastest way to accidentally run into her.
C-If you see one and see is near where you need to go, crouch down and move past her slowly.
D-Listen to her as you move around her. If her crying stops and turns into a low growl MOVE THE FUCK BACK
E-If you need to fight her aim for the head. Also setting her on fire really doesn't help. It just makes her mad.
F-Lastly DON'T STARE AT HER. Just like a prom queen with a small zit. If you stare, YOU DIE!

3 - When you hear the sound of a Tank get ready. When you finally see it pump everything you have into it while you back away. If you are far away from the walking bicep with eyes he will pieces of the ground at you. They do more damage than getting punched but they are easier to dodge. Also When the Tank gets close to you, run away don't try to jump away. If you get hit while jumping you will be pushed back much further than you normally would. If a Tank every incapacitates a team mate just melee it from behind to get it's attention then RUN LIKE HELL!

4 - The pipe bomb is your friend. It not only causes a nice little boom, but it has the added benefit of drawing all of the infected in the general area to it. So while they try to punch and kick it, you can get to safety while they get a nice surprise.

5 - Molotoves and gas cans are really best saved for defense. When you are waiting for the rescue vehicle it is for the best if you set up gas cans in area where the infected might enter. Set them off to create a wall of fire that will slow them down. Molotoves work the exact same way only they are thrown.

6 - Stay close to each other. The closer you are the less likely someone will be injured by the Smoker or Hunter. And remember if you see a Hunter in mid flight coming towards you, melee him instead of shooting. You are better off knocking him away instead of trying to halt his attack with bullets.

7 - When you get face to face with a Boomer, use your melee attack to push him back. When playing with others make sure the Boomer is nowhere near your team before you blast his fat ass. If you do get Boomer bile on you either back yourself into a corner and start swinging, or try to run the way you came. The first option works better because one your melee attack knocks the infected into one another, so you can keep them at bay while your vision clears up, and you don't run the risk of getting lost because you ran the wrong way.

8 - Get yourself a boomstick. The shotgun is much better than the machine gun and assault rifle. They later 2 run through ammo very fast and aren't as powerful. It is better to use the pistol/ duel pistols for targets further away and switch over to the shotgun when the infected get too close for comfort. But be careful, the shotgun can take out multiple infect with one shot, but they are slower to reload, and you have a higher chance of friendly fire due to the spread.

9 - Even though I consider the shotgun to be the better weapon, the entire team shouldn't use them. When playing with 3 other people the weapon layout should be as followed. 1 shotgun, 2 assault rifles, and 1 hunting rifle. The following formations will help when inside, and when out in the open, on the Expert difficulty.
Inside - The shotgun should be in the front, and should be the one to open doors. One assault rifle should be behind the shotgun, to help and lay down cover fire while he reloads. The hunting rifle should be in the middle or in the back. They need distance to be effective so with 2-3 guns between them and the infected they should be able to take out enemies that a far away and help thing any hordes that might pop up. The last assault rifle should in the back or in the middle. In the back they can bring up the rear, and catch any special infected that happen to be following your group, but in the middle they can offer up addition cover fire for the shotgun.
Outside/ Open Spaces - You should all be in like a diamond formation. The shotgun should be in the front, plowing through the infected. The 2 assault rifles should be watching the sides taking care of any nfected just hanging around. Also they should help with thinning the horde. Last the hunting rifle should be in the back acting like a scout. listen for the sounds of the special infected and try to locate them. You could actually take them out before they become a problem.

10 - If you are going to use the mini-gun make sure you are covered. It is better used online because you can make sure each one of your teammates has one of your three blind spots covered. When playing single player make sure you get off of it when you see that one of your teammates is in trouble. Nothing is worse than letting go to turn around and see 50 or so zombies smiling at you will one off in the corner holds up a sign saying "You know you fucked up, right?"

11 - Lastly always close doors as you progress. When playing by yourself the computer controlled AI will close doors if they went through them last. But every now and then it's up to you to try and close doors. A closed door can by you some time and it can give you an opportunity to take down some infected without them getting to close, and they bash it down.

If you keep these tips in mind then you will have no problem clearing all 4 campaigns in the game. And then once you do that why not give expert a shot? When you do decide to tackle expert, all i can say is stick to high ground and do what Bill suggested in the intro. RUN...and SHOOT.

The Tank Knows Best.
lv99ron | 1:22 PM on 11.25.2008 9 comments

After another fun night of playing Left 4 Dead, but this time with a friend, I learned one important thing. The Tanks aren't there to kill you, they are there to guide you in the right direction if you get lost. They also keep you from wasting time, dilly dadaling by giving you that little nudge to move on.

I don't know if any of you remember this, but there was this 4 player Simpsons game in the arcade. It was a basic side-scroller beat-em up. After you clear the screen of enemies you could progress on to the next encounter. You knew you could press on when a flashing gloved hand would appear on the left side of the screen pointing in the direction you needed to go. Now if for any reason you didn't move on, albeit if you were collecting or looking for items the hand would flash faster. If you were still there the hand would come down and start attacking the characters. You couldn't kill it, but you could push it away. Basically this was the games way of pushing you to the next area.

Fast forward 10 or so years and we see the return of this concept. While playing Left 4 Dead if the players get to comfortable in a spot or are hanging around in an area for too long the game will give them a little nudge. All the exploration and screwing around ends when you hear the music change and the sound of something massive, rampaging your way. Of course unlike the hand you can actually fight back and kill it but the effect is still the same.

Last night I this all became clear to me after two very interesting games. The first one on No Mercy was pretty straight forward. It wasn't until the end when I noticed the helping hands of the Tank. We basically had the roof top secured even though it was slowly getting over run. One Tank showed up and he went after Francis, who was played by Ossisk. We killed the Tank but the roof had was now swarming with the little infected buggers. We stayed on the roof trying to clear it off. During this we got a transmission from the pilot saying he would be there in another 5 minutes. Right after that we here the sound of another Tank. Once again it went after Francis, who had not really moved from his spot. It put him down before we could kill it. Zoey helped him up and we went inside of the room and closed what was left of the door. As they healed I went back up to the roof and used the mini-gun to thin the heard. In the distance I saw chopper Zoey and Bill made a break for it while I stayed on the mini-gun, and Francis was down stairs doing something.

I should have moved after my experience yesterday. Anyway I was trying to rack up kills with the mini-gun for an achievement, when I got a helpful reminded to move to the chopper to escape. The Tank gave me a helping hand by punching me from the roof top to about halfway up the ramp of the LZ where Bill and Zoey began to lay down cover fire. I was running and punching my way to them when I saw Francis got slimmed by the Boomer. To top it off the Tank was now all over him. Zoey and Bill jumped out of the chopper to help we killed the Tank but at a heavy price. The Tank died after Francis was given the Bloody Mess treatment. The Boomer exploded blinding both me and Zoey, and Bill got snatched by a Smoker. With my health fading and my teammates dropping like flies I decided I should honor their memory by escaping. Zoey was behind me at one point, but I guess she used her body as a shield to catch a Hunter in mid pounce. Bill was a little tongue tied at the moment (see what I did there) so it was up to me. I had 6 health and at least 3 feet between me and freedom. Well with no one to watch my back as I dragged myself to the chopper the zombie swarm behind made short work out of me. I was in mid jump too, i could taste the freedom before it was replaced by the taste of my own blood as I was stomped to death.

All this time the Tanks were trying to tell us to move. The roof top with the mini gun on it, isn't the safest place to be. There are just too many places you can get attacked from. Also the Tank wanted us to escape he didn't want us to share the same fate as all the other. Why else would he propel me towards the escape? The Tanks are just misunderstood is all. They are there to guide us in the right direction and get you there in a timely fashion. If I could I would ride around on the shoulder of a Tank, throwing cookies at the other infected while singing "So happy together".

 about me

Well hello. My name is Ron, and yes i'm a nerd. Always have been always will be. Video games are my life. Without them i would probably be, I don't know outside playing sports, or doing something "constructive". I play action, adventure, survival horror, first person shooters, and just about anything else to raise my achievement score. At one point I was really big into rpgs, mainly the more obscure American releases. Now I prefer games that I can play in short bursts without having to worry about a long story to remember. And by short bursts I mean 4 -5 hours. I am an achievement whore. Can't stop won't stop. I like too many games, but if I had to choose a favorite I would have to say Dead Rising. On a hard day nothing brings a smile to my face quite like running over hundreds of the undead in a car, with the hood down. Then hoping out and killing more with my mega buster.

When I'm not playing games, I'm either on Myspace screwing around there, on Facebook screwing around there, or with friends. I enjoy going to the movies, hanging out, and going on adventures. Movies take up the second largest chunk of my life. I have a very odd taste in movies. mainly if the movie has something I really like or enjoy I label it as good. This is why I like movies like Daredevil, The One, House of the Dead, etc. But my friends trust my advice on films for the most part. If i don't like it you know it's bad. I'm actually in the process of trying to buy every single video game based movie. I'm only missing a few. Hopefully Hollywood keeps on crapping them out.

Now all that crap I take in from movies and games isn't wasted. I actually have a very good imagination. My only downfall is i need motivation to use it. One day i will find my calling in this world. Until then I'm going to keep raising my achievement score until Microsoft has no choice but to acknowledge me and give me a cookie.
