To start off. I am a huge fan of Ghost Rider, and Nicolas Cage. With Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance reaching it's release date of 2/17/12, I can't help but to wonder where is the movie tie in game? It's resting in the bowels of hell with Megaman Legends 3, Blade 4, and Daredevil 2. I mean seriously, what the shit is that? They have released a game for like the last 12 movies adapted from Marvel comics, minus Xmen First Class, and almost like 20 or more movie tie-in games in the past 5 years. On that list is the first Ghost Rider movie, and some of you might be thinking "that game was terrible" well in reality the game was not bad. It was just a God of War clone, which turned off several people. Now you might say poor sales wouldn't justify anyone trying to make another. But be realistic. That didn't stop the talent folks at Sega from cranking out not one but 2 Ironman games, with the second being far worse than the first one. And it didn't stop 2K, the makers of the original Ghost Rider game, from making Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Which was a step up from the GOD AWFUL Fantastic Four game released by Activision.
Well there really isn't much else to say. I just think this was a missed opportunity. Granted, a missed opportunity similar to Russian Roulette. Because like the drinking game made popular in Vietnam, "The Deer Hunter", and "187" there is a probability of success, and a probability of ultimate failure. But with the past track record of these games, the probability of ultimate failure is much much higher. Also because of the nature of Ghost Rider's powers/weapons I could see the developers trying to work in Wii Mote, PS Move, and even Xbox Kinect functionality which could have possibly hurt the game even more. Now, it would be freaking bad ass if you could use your Penance Stare by holding X and staring directly into the Kinect sensor. Oh well, at least i can get my Ghost Rider fix in Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.
I can, however, agree with you on the fact of the Ghost Rider movie game being a fun game, as I own it myself and I love the God of War series and its clones as long as they play well.
Ghost Rider was a god damn good video game. It let me play as Blade, somehow I didn't have to beat the game or enter a stupid code, I got to be Blade and beat up dudes. Not that being Ghost Rider and beating up dudes wasn't awesome, because god dammit, it was. I played through half the game one afternoon, I bought it for ten dollars, and am proud to own it and talk highly of it.
Movie games should be that price, ten dollars, and of that quality. If I got a Deadly Premonition budget version of a Ghost Rider game, like we did with The Punisher game, where the dudes working on it love what they're working on and pour as much into it as possible within their limitations, you can end up with something fucking awesome. The problem is corporate greed and companies looking at video games as nothing more than one more tie in bullshit thing to make money off of.
Just like coloring books, action figures, and gummy "fruit" chew able candies video games are just one more fucking thing.
