The current standard low resolution is still 800x600.

Don't force a game to be widescreen even on normal monitors or you'll be crucified.

Most people at least play games on 800x600 or 1024x768 with the quality sky rocketing.

my desktop is set at 1600x1200. i play my games anywhere between 1024x768 to 1152x864 since thats all i can handle without getting into a slide show.

1024x768 for about 10 people I know who have 17" monitors
1680 x 1050 for around 5 people who have WS monitors 20"-22"
1920 x 1200 for the one retarded guy with a 30" monitor
