Well from the past relationships I've had, my ex's always HATED videogames, one was thought they destroyed people's braincells (lol yes), and the other well just thought it wasen't cool, like being a musician is so much cooler.
Now from what I've noticed is that with games, people try to make art and stories that appeal to everyone.
While singers and bands, the lyrics are often me me me and me and oh poooor me and me again and me and let's just focus on me
I would say that's why I have more respect for videogame creators and movie makers and book writers, it's alot harder to imagine something new that has nothing to do with you, while singers just take everything out of their life.
What I've also noticed is that nearly every cool kid has to be in a bloody band, it's not like their band is ever going to make it, god there is more musicians these days than herpes.
But I've gone off subject, the fact is when you're a nerd you don't have much social life haha, well maybe it's just me, but if you're in a bar, and people ask you, what do you do for a living, and you say erm games? they just change conversation and ask "hey are you english you have a accent?" maybe I missed the point, but I think that videogames (well not playing them because I never have time) seem to put women off alot.
I remember when I used to talk about to my ex about my game ideas and stuff she used to nearly fall asleep or not listen lol.
I've been single for over 6 months lol and well still no luck, I think everytime they hear the word videogames they run away.
So why is it that videogames are still considered nerdy, when they are what makes the most money in the entertainement industry now?
And I guess I kind of hate the music industry, well from some people I've met, they all have gigantic egos and tend to think they are "rockstars" I don't think that there is any such thing nowadays. I mean no one cares about people who fuck thousands of different people and then get herpes, it's kind of outdated.
I kind of think why videogames do so well is because well they let the player become the center of attention, it's not like a movie or concert where the whole focus is to consider those people as gods, videogames bring the attention back to the client the person who bought the product, if this makes any sense, it did in my head.

Real nerds are single because they are often so socially stunted that they can't relate to "normal" human beings on any level outside of their comfort zone and offer nothing of value to a partner.
You're stereotyping what that most musicians just whine, and that everyone wants to be in a band to be cool and be famous. I'm a gamer, and I've been in multiple bands in the past few years. I don't play shows to "be cool", I do it because I enjoy it, and it's one of the things I'm able to do well. I think you're just overshooting how many people whine about themselves in their music and how many "cool kids" make a band just to be cool.
Other than that, good post! :)
Are the "lols" supposed to make me feel uncomfortable?
If you're British, and live here in the States, you are playing the wrong angle. Bullshit gets you laid...Not video games.
Do you make video games? If so, then you were with the wrong chick...I don't know ho wold you are, but it sounds like you got far more time ahead of you than behind. Lighten up, no more emo music, and be a race car driver for a night. A little pipe cleaning will have you right as rain.
To the public there are no rich and famous game developers.
Also, Luc, you need to find some good music. Because the fact that you think music is somehow less than books/videogames is pretty damn ignorant; music is the expression of the soul, it can define people, places, time, space, cultures, objects and even feelings with sound, which is something that NOTHING else can do. Take Tool for example, Maynard puts ridiculous amounts of effort in to his music and talks about the life, the universe and the way we live. Point is, you should not compare all musical artists with indie pop-culture bands; they are not the same thing.
As for having a social life, mines pretty active, in the sense that I see a lot of my friends. But I pretty much never leave my home except for weekends; so I guess thats anti-social.
My girlfriend doesn't play much, but when she does she has a lot of fun. Last night we had an awesome session of GTAIV, she is really getting the hang of the controls and loves going on killing sprees with molitov cocktails; and shes always interested in hearing about my thoughts on game designs and new games etc and always has questions regarding them. I guess it just depends on whether the person you are with genuinely cares about your thoughts/interests.
That is the quote of the day, sir. People always react funny to me for saying I'm an artist, and for saying I want to work in comicbooks as a career...
If they truly don't like you for the fact that you develop video games, then fuck em. Not worth your time anyway if they're that closed minded.
You'd be shocked how well this works.
Find me one, k thnx.
Worst experience ever as she was almost too nerdy. I would go out for a long run, she'd be inside playing video games or reading graphic novels. She'd come to see me at a triathlon and she'd bring her Game Boy.
I just got sick of her being a "nerd" all the time. I needed a girl that could turn off the nerd thing when in public or just keep it to a minimum.
Games are pretty much mainstream now though, and here in nz at least, most guys play games. Its interesting watching the next generations come through; I have a few younger friends who are among the coolest at school from being good at sport, yet they play games of all types. The girls are getting used to it (not like they have a choice :P), and quite a few of them enjoy watching for a bit, although theres still not many who will actually join in.
Just keep trying. Someone who genuinely likes/loves you wont care what you do, as long as it doesnt affect the relationship badly. Over the past year ive seen two of my gamer friends get into relationships with girls who have nearly no interest in gaming, just because they 'clicked'.
very well said about the music-industry!
any girl that seems to be into rpgs, makes me happy
lulz
Also, it doesn't matter if you design videogames or make art, women should come second to your profession anyway, if you want to be the best :P
I've actually been lucky enough to find a nerdy girlfriend. She actally asked for Soul Caliber 4 for her birthday.
Clearly you were dating a fool. Anyway, welcome back to the club. Here's your badge, and you can have your old parking spot back.
