I'm a proud Michigander, and I appreciate some motherfucking jazz.

Classic Childhood: Rocko's Modern Life
kwaselow | 11:20 AM on 12.24.2007 21 comments

Growing up, Rocko's Modern Life was my favorite Nicktoon. It was responsible for countless childhood moments, and had a theme song by The B-52's. I know they used to show this on Nicktoons Network, but they've stopped doing so. They've also stopped airing Doug and Aaahh!!! Real Monsters (which I, unfortunately, can't find any episodes of). This begs the question: Why doesn't Nickelodeon want us seeing the shows they made that were actually good?

Rocko, Real Monsters, Angry Beavers & Doug were epic cartoons. Way better than anything out today.

Dough could get rather lame. Way too many moral messages in each episode. Skeeters theme music rocked though.

Rocko was so awesome though. I think the problem these days is that kids that watch nickelodeon want to see action cartoons and sponge bob. Watch Cartoon network from time to time, they have great cartoons like Ed, Edd, and Eddy and my Gym Partners a monkey.

Agree'd Jack of No Trades.

Favorite episodes that I can remember:
- Evil Spirit gets released, like ghost busters as it trys to possess everything
- Heffer goes to work at a sausage farm/factory place, gets abducted.
- The guys go shopping at a mall, it's gigantic and they end up sleeping over in the "wilderness".

I really really loved Rocko's Modern Life when I was a kid, then when they started showing it on another Nick channel when I was around 18 or 19 I watched again and wondered why the hell I liked it so much as a kid.

Man I feel old I watched Nick When it was all "You Can't Do That On Television" And Danger Mouse and Pin Wheel. I watched Rosk when I was like 23 or 24 though and I loved it.

I loved the musical episode Zanzibar. Really funny, especially when the chorus is singing everything he says. I finally found it here.

Rocko's Modern Life had some of the best background, sometimes recurring, characters of any of the Nicktoons: The paramedic beavers who always took the wrong guy, the comic book store owner, the fat hipp lady who always said "How DARE you!" when Rocko would accidentally bump into her ass... Also:

I'M A WILD PIG!!!!!

Rocko is one of my all time favorite shows. There sure were some trippy ass episodes though.

@Thornn

You're not the only one chief. I used to watch you can't do that on television after school every day. Although Barf (i think that was the chefs name) pissed me off everytime he came on screen i did enjoy the slime factor.

How about Sharon, Lois and Brams elephant show? Only back in the 80s could someone make a show based around a guy in an elephant costume.

I think this is tied with the Angry Beavers for my favorite cartoon EVER. I miss this show, so much.

I just wish they'd make DVDs. I saw some website selling a bootleg DVD set of the whole series for $50, which I would actually buy if I could find any reviews or something on it. I can't find a damn torrent or anything of the show anywhere. >_>
