About Me
I have been a gamer for as about as long as I can remember. Started on an Intelevision my father picked up for me and my sister at a garage sale. I played countless hours of Baseball(when I was playing with my sister) and Astromash by myself. I moved onto a Nes a little later than everyone else had to get by on a Atari 2600 but had started to collect a respectable amount of retro systems Atari 5600 and 7800, Magnavox Odyssey 2, and countless generic Pongs and countless games for all of them from a really cool swap meet. But Nes definitely holds a special place for me cause I wanted one for so long. As soon as I was able to buy my own stuff by mowing yards etc I have went overboard and really haven't slowed down yet.

I am an owner of all the consoles I like them all though I may occationally hate on particular console makers time to time when I feel they have lost there way or just did something stupid. I particularly do not like the hardcore fan-boys those that the truth means nothing to or are blind to it. People shouldn't dis great games just because of their platform.

I play just about every type of game out there with the exception of sports titles though I have been known to dabble with them from time to time more on the fantasy variety like Hotshots Golf or the Mario "insert sport here"(can't wait for Mario Marco Polo). My favorite Genre has to be rhythm games followed by action adventures and platformers but I also enjoy racing games(Interstate 76 is probably my all time favorite car game which is saying something I'm an indecisive person(Interstate 82 would probably be the biggest let down for a car game))and RPG's, Puzzlers etc.

I am also an anime fan really both have fueled each other. I really like comedy the best though serious titles do have there moments. I have weirded friends out with Sexy Commando Gokkudokun and corrupted people with Ebichu.

Gamefly woes!
konchu | 5:20 PM on 01.03.2008 9 comments

I have had Gamefly for quite awhile now have the nice 10% discount and get my 5 dollar coupon every few months but I'm about to be at the end of my rope with them being game less since 11/27/07. I am about to the 10th day on my 3rd shipment of Raving Rabbids 2 and Geometry Wars Galaxies. They claim it to be shipped but it has never made it to me I never had a problem on any of my orders from them when I have bought games and they have shipped the box and manual which also come USPS unless its a large order got my games from the holiday sale today via FedEx. I have ordered countless things that are shipped 1st class USPS with no issues yet(and always get all my bills insurance cards etc)but when I inquired on the second issue with Gamefly they claimed it is probably my mail route and state I may have to provide another address if this persist. So I am in a position that either my mail carrier(or someone in between) has moved to a life of crime or Gamefly is full of crap and not actually sending the games(maybe the games will come in tomorrow to spite me, I can hope).

Ive thought maybe its a conspiracy I don't really rent older games I generally know when the games I want to rent are coming out and will often clear my queue so I get what I want and often buy games I like I'm probably at a 30% to 50% buy it rate. Maybe this is there way of weeding out the non profitable people though that is probably just crazy talk.

So really I just wanted to shout out to the Dtoid community and see if anyone else has seen similar issues with rentals from Gamefly are not coming.

I canceled GameFly after using it for three months. They never had anything I wanted in stock and they took forever to ship. I now just use Goozex so I can get a fair trade on my games but still own/keep them if I want.

My friend tried them first and canceled them because of the reasons above plus they kept saying his games got lost on the way back to them so he would have to wait forever. I don't know anyone who has signed up and kept it. The best alternatives?

If you have a PC then use http://www.gametap.com/. It isn't perfect but it's a damn good service for a good price.

I trade all my games on http://www.goozex.com/ and I've been having a pretty good experience so far...

I just sent them an email because Im having similar issues. I had 9 or 10 games with high availabikity on the top of my Q and they send me my very bottom game (armed and dangerous for xbox) even though it had the same availability as higher titles. Unfortunately they have the best prices of simlar services so Im just hoping it gets better.

Ive never had a game get lost on its way either way but there is a way u can have whoever ur postman is be grilled on missing games in case hes a thief. I reported a game lost one time because it had been a week and they gave me a link to describe my post man and all this other stuff to report.

I've been having similar issues since the beginning of December. Maybe it has something to do with the holidays or something? I dunno, but I did finally get Assassin's Creed around mid-December after waiting a week or two for Skate (and then finally marking it as lost).

I haven't got Super Mario Galaxy yet, even though it shipped out 12/24, so I might mark that lost, too.

Even with recent issues, I've been very pleased with GameFly over the past year I've been a member, so I'd say stick it out and hopefully things will normalize again. I love the 10% discount and the $5 credit, plus their prices on used games are often much lower than GameStop's, even without the discount and %5 off.

Oh, and they were very understanding when I told them I didn't get the $10 Thanksgiving credit e-mail, so that's something else that makes them awesome. I bought Call of Duty 3 for free with that $10 credit and my $5 credit. :D

Yeah I want to stick it out cause I love the service when it works. It just may not be an option if it turns out I have had 6 games lost in the course of a month they may demand a new address to continue service and Im not getting a PO box just for gamefly nor do I want them shipped to my work. I also do get the feeling I'm being screwed with and that does not make me happy.

You might be able to physically go to your post office and bitch at them about your mailman. If you have a locked mailbox/clusterbox then theres no way anyone else could be stealing your stuff. So if your post office confirms that they are indeed receiving the games and then handing them to your postman that should prove that the postman is indeed a thieving bastard.

I've been using gamefly for 2 years and haven't had 1 game lost in the mail. Damn konchu, that must be really annoying. I'm assuming you've reported your problem (https://www.gamefly.com/member/problemreport.asp?)? I'd to say it must have something to do with your post office and not some "gamefly conspiracy" though. I don't think most people are renting older games, everyone wants to rent the newest releases and that's why gamefly has all of them and sometimes there availability is low. The trick with availability is it can change at any time. I put a game with low availability in my Q and the next day it had shipped. You never know when they may get a popular game back in.

My ship times have been steadily improving since they opened the dist. center in PA too. Now I'm reading about them opening one in Tampa. I think Gamefly is leading the field in online game rentals and really the best service out there. All the added feature like keep it, rewards etc. also really make it worthwhile for me.
