So I've just taken 2 percocet to settle down a little, take the edge off after a hard day of work, games, and getting flamed for dumb shit. They've just started kicking in, and thank fucking God. I need a good break, maybe some sleep. I never sleep though, that is why you see me on here at night a lot. I was going to have a beer, but I didn't feel like Mr. Uematsu would want drunks as fans of his music. So I might light up a fucking joint when I'm done here, then continue on listening to as much classic Uematsu and Mitsuda as possible tonight. So far I feel a lot better.
Download or purchase this track right now: "Dagger's Theme" from Final Fantasy IX. If you've played the game but dont remember the songs by name or anything, this is the one Garnet (Dagger) always sings. She kind of just sings LaLaLa to the melody, but it sounds so damn beautiful that you wont care. It's haunting and yet also calming. It's just some strings really, but it sounds amazing. The melody is so beautiful and optimistic sounding, yet at the same time you can feel the despair in Dagger's voice. A simply amazing track.
I also find myself listening to "Kuja's Theme" a lot. Kuja is the girly looking dude above. Yeah, he looks like a bitch. And he is one in the end. Just a pawn really. An angry, miserable, wants-to-take-over-the-world but cant kind of bitch. It is also from FF9, in case you didn't know. I have no clue if it sounds different on the real soundtrack, but the version I have is the Piano Collections version. In essence, the same exact song from the game. Obviously, it is primarily done by Piano, and it sounds awesome. In keeping with that theme of optimism our hero Zidane portrays, this one is evil sounding yet somewhat playful. Nothing like Sephiroth's Theme from FF7, which was a truly dark song. I happen to like this song better than Sephiroth's, and I honestly feel that you will too, if you happen to give it a listen. In fact, give them both a listen and find out for yourself.
The "Final Fantasy VII Main Theme". This is one of the most well known, and a personal favorite for God knows what reason. I don't get it myself. It's certainly a nice song, but it's not exactly my type. Still, I love it, and I find myself listening to it a lot in the car. It seems to have some sort of fucking calming effect when stuck in traffic, as I just kind of chill out when it's on. I love the opening of the song and it's darker tone, then all of a sudden a kind of switch to a more livelier sound, evoking feelings of hope inside me. Then it goes back to an even darker sound before the big finish. It's quite epic actually. Very good work from Mr. Uematsu, who incidentally (obviously) composed all 3 songs here. I'm also listening to some Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross music, and currently looking to get my hands on some Xenogears music also. That one is hard unless you're willing to pay some cash. But I digress. It's been a dumb night, one that I am eager to leave behind while I enjoy my weekend.
Time's Scar...fave Mitsuda song...too bad it's soooo short.
Time's Scar is the one played on the intro of Chrono Cross.
I honestly don't know the name of the songs, but I mostly listen to the "Dear Friends" and "More friends" cds I have(I went to the "More friends: music from FF" concert a few year ago in LA) when i want to listen some Final Fantasy Music
VI, VII and IX are godly though
And btw isn't Garnets theme basically "Melody of life" without the lyrics? I'ts been a while since I've listened to that OST.
Dammit.
The Black Mages are awesome. Don't know if they should be called mere "covers" though, seeing as Uematsu plays keys for them :)
