About Me
Hey, I'm Chris. I've been playing games since the NES in the 80s. We got the NES with Mario/Duck Hunt for Christmas, and it was all downhill from there. I have all 3 current systems, and I currently use the 360 most, although I love all of them. I have limited funds for games, but still have a decent amount of games. Currently enjoying Ratchet and Clank for PS3 and still playing Halo 3.

Top 5 games in order:

5. God of War - PS2

4. Chrono Trigger - SNES

3. Final Fantasy 6 - SNES

2. Super Mario Bros. 3 - NES

1. Final Fantasy 9 - PSOne

I hope to contribute and not suck.

As a side note, I have been met with a few questions as to how I chose my username. Well, it's quite the corny story, so I'll spare you how my 12 year old mind came up with it so many years ago. Here's a simple equation for you:

Kobe Bryant

+

Obi-Wan Kenobi

=

Kobewan.

Get it? Good. It's corny, but WTF? I made it up when I was a kid, and I love it.

A trip down Memory Lane: Super Mario Bros. 3(NES)

Well, as it says in my profile, Super Mario Bros. 3 is my second favorite game of all time. Now, a lot of people ask me, "Why part 3? Why not Super Mario World(SNES)?" Well, the answer isn't quite simple. While I love Super Mario World, as it admittedly Super Mario perfected, it doesn't quite have the charm and character of Mario 3.

This game is practically perfect, and chock full of secrets and other goodies. Also, the different power ups really add variety to the already great gameplay of prior Mario games. I also love the different worlds you get to visit. My personal favorite is World 3, AKA Ocean Side. Why you ask? Well, besides the awesome water levels and cool secrets in this world, it is also home to one of my favorite power ups:

That's right, the Frog Suit. I know it's not that great out of water, but World 3 just so happens to be full of that! I definitely would like to see this suit return in a new game, if Nintendo could make it work control wise. I doubt this will happen, but that's ok. I can live with a Bee suit. Awesome power up.

Another favorite suit is also in this game:

The Tanooki Suit. Although it is a similiar power up to the leaf racoon thingy, it's so much cooler! I love to imagine a real Mario running round in this suit. Which brings me to my next point:

The art design and level design. Featuring 8 different worlds, as most Mario games do, each one is vastly different from the last. My personal favorites are World 2, the desert, and World 3, Ocean Side. World 2 features some great levels. I particularly like the one where the sun chases you. It was quite the challenge at the age of 4. World 3 features lots of great levels also, including this one:

I'm more partial to the levels where the big fish swims in the water underneath you as the platforms sink and rise, but this is the only pic I could find. I will always love World 3. I always choose to go there when I use the magic whistle(s).

The Bonus section of Ocean Side. Accessed by using hammers on the correct barriers

Speaking of whistles, there are quite a few of them. They give you the ability to warp ahead to a different world, but at a risk: Occasionally, the first whistle will only give you the choice of one of the last few worlds. Sometimes, you don't want to jump to world 8 right away. It is better to play through the entire game and collect power ups.

The first world

Well, that's all I can type on this subject for now. Perhaps I will go back and elaborate more at a later time. I completely ignored the 7 different bosses you fight before Bowser and plenty of other stuff. But anyway, I hope this was an enjoyable trip down memory lane for some of you. Nintendo needs to put this on the Virtual Console. Right Fucking Now.

Remember, Play Games!

Yea, right. Let's hope so. I was hoping for some Mario VC goodness when Galaxy launches. It only makes sense.

@ Rocky and Kryptinite:

I never played the original, so it would be nice if SMB3 could come out on the VC on this "Mondaaaaaaay" I have just now learned of. For cereal, please Nintendo do what we are sayin'. The last two weeks have been crap, and this will redeem your souls.

You have never played this game? Then I suggest you wait no longer, and download a ROM for now! You can download the SNES version, which is a part of Super Mario All Stars!, or the NES version, my preference. The SNES one has updated graphics, but the original is just so much more original

My copy works, but I have to blow in the fucker. Then I have to blow in the NES. After that, I sometimes have to bang on the top of the NES. Then we're in business.

Yes, the game gets kind of difficult in the later worlds. It is actually a very good balance between challenging and fun. The first few worlds are somewhat easy, but occasionally a hard level comes our way. The fucking ice world sucks balls. It's awesome, but in a hardcore difficulty sort of way.

You've got the whistle thing all wrong. The warp whistles work thusly... if you're in World 1, you can warp to 2, 3, and 4. If you're in World 2, 3, or 4 you can warp to 5, 6, and 7. If you're in World 5, 6, or 7, you can warp to 8. This way, you can get the whistle in World 1-3 and World 1-Mini Castle, complete the first level, and use the whistles to get to level 8.

Well, I don't remember the details just like that. I'm sorry, haven't played it in years now. You get the idea though. The game was great enough for you to remember those details.

Yeah, I've played it a lot over the years...

I know this so well because I was training for a competition that McDonald's had when I was a kid to see who could go the farthest in the game in a set amount of time without dying. I died on 7-1 so some kid that made it to level 4-1 and survived won... grumble grumble.

Anyway, Super Mario Brothers Three equals platforming perfection.

Hell yea, I made it through all of the levels. But not when it first came out. Many years later, after growing older and mastering 2D Mario by playing Super Mario World to death. This was like 3 years after it came out.
