Etrian Odyssey is an incredibly addictive game. It happened to me quite a few times that I was going to play the game 30 minutes before I sleep and end up sleeping 5 hours later. Well at first I didn't know what to expect because I buy 90% of Atlus games without really looking at what I'm buying except a few screenshots (that how I trust Atlus :P) Just constantly going back and forth in the dungeon keep you from putting the DS down, you're like I'm stopping once I reach the next floor, yet you're still playing 3 floors further.
The FOEs in the dungeon are dangerous, they are very strong especially the first few since your characters don't have much skill/spell at the beginning, I always try to avoid them unless I have everyone at full health. They are very easy to avoid anyway since they only move one space each time your party moves once and they don't follow you unless they spot you. One thing I didn't know though is that those nasty FOEs also move when you inside a battle, and I learned it the hard way, you know when you are fighting random encounters that don't require special tactics (like certain spell) you just feel like tapping A till the end of the fight with out looking at the screen right? So that was what I was doing. About 30 seconds later, I was asking myself "why is this battle so long?". I check on the screen, it's was a freaking (one of the killer mantis) FOE there instead of one of those puny monsters I was fighting and 3 KO'ed party members. Then after that is run failed, one member died, run failed, another member died!!! That was like 2 or so hours of gameplay down the drain.
At least it was only 2 hours, not as bad as the other time when I took that secret passage in level 5 that brings me up. I thought it was suppose to be some sort of side quest, is it? anyways, I fought all the way up to level 3? It's packed with strong FOEs but I manage to reach the last room, a crazy Golem there killed me whole party, I stopped playing the game for a few days. :(
