Hello Dtoiders! Some of you may have seen me around already; I've actually been here for about two weeks now. I planned on writing an intro post shortly after I joined, but my sister came down with appendicitis the same day I joined, and between helping take care of her and getting things ready for the start of school, I never got around to it. Better late than never, right?
Anyways, I was drawn to Dtoid through Anthony Burch's excellent Rev Rant series, and stayed after seeing everything else that the site has to offer.
For those of you who actually read intro posts with the expectation to find out about a person's gaming history and preferences, feel free to check out my profile. Currently I'm playing the shit out of Dissida and nothing else, though I usually juggle two or three games at once. I own a PS3 and PSP; I wish I could get my hands on a 360 or a DS, but being a college student makes this already expensive hobby that much harder to afford. My PSN ID is KingKongFive, feel free to friend me!
And just to make this a bit more interesting than the usual intro post, tell me your favorite game. Or something.
My favourite game of ALL time, the one which I can play over and over again and never get bored? The one game I consider to be the greatest ever made, and no matter who says different, I will always believe the game to be amazing??
Easy, Jak and Daxter 2!!
The runner up would be the Crash Bandicoot series, up to CTR. I am a massive Naughty Dog fan. :D But my first Crash was number 3, then I played the previous 2. Then CTR, all phenomenal games from my childhood that I play to this day, in fact I got them off of PSN. Much better then Mario or Sonic, Crash was more likeable as well, his goofiness really rubbed off on me and I found myself loving the games because he really was 'cool'.
You really have a similar taste in favourite game series as me. I too love FF (8 and 9) MGS 1,2,3,4, and I'm a sims 2 whore waiting anxiously for 3 to appear on the PS3.
So, because of your awesome game tastes, I welcome you to the good ol' Toid. Hope your stay is a permanent one, that you get to experience more of this great site, make sure to explore how deep this site goes (and some of the old articles with epic comment threads!), hope you fit in well with the community and I'll be sure to add you on PSN.
Welcome! I've seen you around a lot: thanks for the intro!
My favorite game of all time? Wait for it...Resident Evil 5.
Previously, it was Skies of Arcadia (#2), and Lunar 1 and 2 (combined as #3). Check out my profile! It has my top 20, all of which are conventional "greatest of all time" titles sprawled about a myriad of genres, but RE5, I know is pretty unconventional.
@Mushman
Jak and Daxter 2! Yes! I don't personally own it but I've played it and I've been meaning to find a copy of it sometime soon. My sister owns the first one, which is pretty good, but the second is just so uniquely atmospheric and genuinely fun. Never played the third one though, have you? Is it any good?
@Magnalon
RE5??? Really? Never played it myself but I've heard a lot of "meh" surrounding it. Then again this is coming from someone who genuinely enjoys the Dynasty Warriors series so maybe I shouldn't be talking. :P Also, Ape Escape is the tits.
Favorite game of all time...hmmmm...You know, I'ma say it's a two-way tie between Rock Band 2, and Sonic 3 + Knuckles. Though a VERY VERY CLOSE second would have to be SSX 3.
Also, welcome! I share your sentiments on late intros, so don't feel bad. xD
@king kong five
Resident Evil 5 is just a TON of fun, especially with a coop partner. Not to mention that it has 2 extra difficulty levels, tons of extra goods, online play, MERCS MODE (which kicks ASS - best mini-game ever), and tons of other content. Most games nowadays ship with absolute shit-all extra content (Arkham Asylum, WET).
From a pure gaming standpoint, it's one of the best $60 purchases I've ever made in my life.
I have indeed played the third one, and it's fantastic. The game takes a more overall darker tone (don't worry, it's not violently dark) and it's more of the same, albeit with new stuff and of course, more story. It's shorter compared to 2, but it's well worth the time.
Buy it if you can, it's cheap on Amazon, well in England, and it's better then most of the games on the market today!
Welcome to Destructoid. Considering I've been here for years and still have yet to do an intro, this is not late :P
My favourite game would be...I don't know. Maybe Pokemon Red or Jet Grind Radio?? I'll say Warhawk since I haven't been able to enjoy gaming since my copy cracked T_T
Hey hey, welcome! Nice to see another War of the Monsters fan.
Favorite game of all time? Tough one, but I'm gonna have to go with the original Deus Ex. And though it's all but blasphemy in certain circles, I actually prefer the PS2 version.
@Mushman
I'll definitely be on the lookout for it.
@CelicaCrazed
Love Warhawk. If you ever get a new copy, let me know cause I am so ready to start playing that game again.
@Deathofthedead
War of the Monsters is great. It served as a gateway game for me to get into some more traditional fighting games like Soul Calibur and Tekken. I've never played either of the Deus Ex games, is that a tragic mistake on my part?
Not having played #2 (aka Invisible War) is a mistake, but not a tragic one. The first one, on the other hand...if you can get past the very dated graphics, you'll find an incredibly deep first-person shooter/stealth/RPG with a kick-ass story and enough freedom to let you solve objectives your way. Sure, a lot of games do that nowadays, but when it came out it was a revelation (and I still think it does it better than most).
Well I'm not buying another game for my PS3 until I get Warhawk again first haha. I'm planning on downloading it though so it's just a matter of picking up a PSN Card. You should check out Friday Night Fights where all of us Dtoiders play together. If your home and online, you should come join us.
@CelicaCrazed
Yeah, I've been checking out Friday Night Fights, unfortunately I don't own any of those games! I'll definitely be looking out for games I do own, though.
It's on like King Kong Five. Wait, that doesn't work. =P Ha ha! Welcome, man!
A film major! I was that once until I settled for a Broadcast and Communications degree. Well, good luck, man! Share some of your student works with us, that'd be sweet! Enjoy your stay here, dude.
@Mag
I know you love RE:5, I just didn't know you looooooooooooved RE:5. I agree, man - It's worth every damn dollar! I've been playing through the story mode again with a friend and it's still awesome! Teamwork at it's finest! In Capcom I trust. We should play sometime, dude. My PS3 username is Artemus311

about me
I'm a film major at UC Riverside (recently transferred from UCD). I first got into gaming with Crash Bandicoot on the original Playstation, and it's probably for that reason that the original Crash trilogy has an inherently exclusive spot on my list of favorites.
I love King Kong movies, and really any movie that involves something large, hairy and sensitive. I love spending time with my girlfriend, and I also enjoy making films with friends, something which I haven't done in far too long, but plan on picking up again soon.
I've been more or less following Dtoid for a few months now, and I figured I would create an account.
Favorite games:
Metal Gear series
Final Fantasy VI-IX
Crash Bandicoot
I Wanna Be The Guy
War of the Monsters (the very definition of the term "hidden gem")
Rise of Nations
Tetris
Shadow of the Colossus
The Sims series (yeah, fuck you too)
Games I'm playing now:
Far Cry 2
MGS2 and 3
Left 4 Dead 2

Large, hairy, and sensitive huh? Sounds like me after an awesome date at Red Lobster.
Welcome to Destructoid, I love you.

As the awesome Mankind said, have a nice day!! :)
Yo this is a good intro post and all, and I'm gonna let everyone welcome you, but Ashley Davis had one of the best intro posts of all time!
Welcome! I've seen you around a lot: thanks for the intro!

Welcome! I have no idea what my favorite game of all time is. I'm writing a blog about my favorite sports game of all time right now, though.

I'd say my favorite would have to be the Metal Gear Solid and the easily-overlooked Xenogears. I played the shit outta both of those games.
expect an add to PSN :P
Yep, I've seen you around before. Welcome!
Welcome!! My favorite game of all time? That's so tough -- Psychonauts, Okami, or Star Control II? Not sure.
@Mushman
I'll definitely be on the lookout for it.
@CelicaCrazed

Well actually due to a transfer I'm now a Media & Cultural Studies major, but close enough.
@Artemus
I have it on 360 :( :( :(
@Mag
Dammit. =`( Get a PS3. Slim.
