Did someone sayDiabeetus?
I'm diabetic as well, I was diagnosed when I was 15. I have to say though, my routine didn't really change, but I did realize why I enjoyed gaming so much, it was because I could go to a world where nothing was wrong with me, a world where I could do anything, it was an escape, it helped me come to terms with it too.
I can see how the Wii could help, I only wish there was something like that 5 years ago.
I'm pre-diabetic, and slacking off on my exercise. I wish I could make exercise more fun. The Wii games don't do it for me. :(
Maybe if I could play LOTRO, IN THE REAL WORLD!
There's diabetes in my family, so I figure I'm at risk. Wii games will defintiely get me moving more than I would have otherwise.
Be sure to pick up on Wii Sports Resort! Nothing too strenuous, lots of fun, and Canoeing feels like a very good cardio warmup :)
Wow, people have diabetes besides me? Why didn't the doctors tell me, I could have like, 15 more friends now...
I'd love to see what a Wii would do for my diabetic life. To bad my parents think all games are the bane of evil, and I should try to act more like Barack Obama or Micheal Jackson.
One of these days, I'm going to pull an OJ Simpson and do the world a favor...
45 pounds in 30 days? That's 1.5 pounds a day, that sounds either really crazy or you were retaining a lot of water...which better diet would probably help flush out.
Great to hear you're getting back into the Wii and the exercise games are working.
Good to see you found a reason to love the Wii. Even though it sucks it's because of Diabetes. It shows that there are different reason to love a particular console.
My parents are both Diabetic... so I guess it's something that I have to keep an eye on as the inheritance factor is there. In terms of exercise, if your PS3 is backward compatible, try some of the older Eyetoy games... there is Eyetoy Kinetics (an actual exercise game), Eyetoy Play! games and also Groove. Groove is my favorite and I try to use it regularly and it seems to give me a decent cardio workout. :)
@Elsa: I'd definitely keep an eye on it. I never really knew I was at risk. I was overweight, but not drastically. If I keep losing weight at my rate, I'll end up underweight. I'll have to check out the Eyetoy games. I never really thought about those.
@Daxelman: My dad was the same way about games. He thought they were the root of all evil when I was growing up. Nowadays, he actually sees the value in them. I keep trying to talk him into getting a Wii for himself or I might just buy him one for Christmas. He came around to the idea that gaming isn't all bad when I started making money in the industry.
Sucks to hear your diagnosis but great to hear you are doing better, and are enjoying the Wii more. I have a friend who was just diagnosed with diabetes too. He waited to long to go to the doctor though and really could have gone blind because his blood sugar was so high. I consider myself lucky as diabetes is not in my family and I can really eat anything I like and not gain any weight, but its also a fuck too as I'd like to gain some weight. Also I'd like to thank you for your service in the Army, there are people out there, myself included, that appreciate the service men and women very much.
Congrats on the weight loss and improved quality of life. Keep up the excellent work!
@Corak.. it definitely is a more dangerous situation than people realize. When I went to the hospital, they said my blood sugar level was so high, I should have been in a coma. Thanks for the Army comment. It seems no matter how far out of the Army I get, its still a big part of me and troops definitely need encouragement :)
@Walk: thanks. It's definitely work
Glad to hear it man, also I second what WalkYourPath said.
